For me it isn't about using System 8 plugin instead of System 1. I was thinking about buying a second hand System 1. And then you've to use the System 1 plugin for librarian or controlling the plugin from the hardware. So that part isn't interchangeable with the System8 plugin.

RE this poster who said
"Greetings!
Just checking in on this thread with some followup Roland Cloud Concerto plugin questions. I actually use this plugin a lot, and I was disconcerted to learn last summer that the Concerto plugin had been unceremoniously discontinued, which I discovered when I tried to load Concerto one day and got a message saying that "You are not authorized for the 1985 Instrument. Please login to your Roland Cloud account". Well, I was logged in. The weird thing is that the other Instruments were still working. That's when I Googled and discovered Concerto had been discontinued. But I was assured by Roland Support that the plugin was still available, just not as part of the ongoing Roland Cloud update. However, as of today, I am unable to load ANY Instrument in Concerto. It says I am not authorized. So, I can still run the plugin, but without any Instruments. I am in the middle of a big audiobook project that relies heavily on a couple of the Concerto plugin Instruments, so if I suddenly can't run them I am in pretty big trouble. Anyone know why I would suddenly lose authorization to those instruments, and how to get them back?? I would buy the Concerto plugin bundle outright if that's what it takes. Thanks for your help!!"
Did you get Concerto working and if so how? I get the same error message you get about having to re authorize. When I load Concerto Discontinued inside RCM it tells that I can download each Anthology Pack again. However, the downloads do not work. Looking at Concerto from inside Logic Pro, it says "already downloaded." Wtf....does anyone know how to get Concerto working again?

I just installed it again on my PC (I had uninstalled it a couple months ago) and it's working OK for me here with the Drum Studio and the Anthology 1993.
Maybe you can uninstall/reinstall and see if it works.

Hey folks, can anyone confirm that if I pay for a single month of Roland cloud that I can change my perpetual licenses? I have a couple I want to switch, but don't want a year of cloud. Thanks!

finally got Concerto working. I went to RCM, selected DISCONTINUED, clicked on Anthology 1985 -1 and re downloaded it. Then I did a reinstall and opened my DAW. It loaded Concerto with all my sample packs and they all work now. Hope this helps someone out there.Examigan wrote: Sat Oct 15, 2022 10:03 pm I just installed it again on my PC (I had uninstalled it a couple months ago) and it's working OK for me here with the Drum Studio and the Anthology 1993.

Now that Concerto is working here, I've been through a few Rompler banks.
Anthology 1985 1 and 2 are the Alpha Juno 1 presets and they sound amazing. I don't know why Roland could not say "THESE ARE THE ALPHA JUNO PRESETS."
Roland continues to be mysterious. If I wanted mystery, I would start dating again.
Anthology 1986 appears to be the JX-8P a year later. Very recognizable. Will post more after doing more research. This could have been SO EASY, but no. SMH over here tonite.

I understand the thinking that if they said “Alpha Juno” then people might expect a fully emulated virtual instrument rather than a sample based one with all its limitations. I also understand a lot of people wouldn’t care about the difference.

No, the Concerto version came first, the D50 plugin version a year or more later...N 4 LIFE wrote: Sun Oct 16, 2022 4:29 am Roland Concerto 1987 is the D50. Didn't the D50 come out before that?

If you mean the hardware D-50, it was released in 1987. For the D-50 plugin, like Beely said, it was released after Anthology 1987.N 4 LIFE wrote: Sun Oct 16, 2022 4:29 am Roland Concerto 1987 is the D50. Didn't the D50 come out before that?

Getting my Roland plugins to show up in Ableton Live 11.2 was a ball-ache. Because my plugin directory in Live is different from where the Roland Cloud installs the Roland plugins I had to use the Windows command line to create a symlink (using MKLINK) to the Roland folder in my Live plugins folder then having done that and launching Live again I could load the plugins but I got an authorisation failure because for whatever reason the Roland Cloud manager had disappeared! So I uninstalled and reinstalled that and finally it all seems to work. Pain in the butt and I blame Ableton for this stupid decision to only allow one or two plugin folders.

Yeah Ableton Live's limited plugin folder options is mind boggling. Just makes no sense at all to force users to resort to Symlinks.

What a waste of $9.99. I don't find out that Sound Canvas VA hasn't been updated, and probably won't be updated, until I read it in the news notice in the Cloud Manager. And none of the other plugins available are likely to be no-frills General MIDI capable.
Yes, I actually got a bug report that my app wasn't working properly with Sound Canvas VA on macOS, because yes, I support zero configuration MIDI file playback using arbitrary Audio Unit instruments. Apparently this is a lost art, because nobody cares about collecting and playing GM/GS/XG files any more. Still waiting for someone to make a pluggable GM/GS/XG player that actually implements the full breadth of those specifications. It doesn't even have to have customizable instrument support. I don't even care if it costs money, or a subscription.
Roland tool the exact same SC-8820 emulator library, and stuffed it into a $30 app, and suggested it was for use for general file playback by making it a MIDI player, too. Then they discontinued it. I would have liked something like this for audio player or simple file rendering use.
Now the only thing even remotely approaching it is paying for Sound Canvas VA, and it looks like they can't be bothered to update that any more, either. I wouldn't be surprised to find that whoever wrote it used copious amounts of assembly language instead of any portable C or C++ code. After all, from my own inspection, the library is entirely singleton, and a new instance of the entire library must be loaded to create a new instance of the engine. They used to do this on macOS by binary searching the plugin for the SONAME and changing it, and saving a copy to /tmp/. The last major change to the Sound Canvas library was to split it into 32 different copies of the synthesizer code and static variables, all code signed, and each of them imports a shared copy of the instrument ROM bank from a separate library. This did speed up load times considerably, though, and also fixed the whole signed instruments validation issue.

Hi, Echoes in the Attic. Brian from Roland Cloud here. Yes, that is correct. You can change your Reward Instrument Lifetime Keys in the Reward Instrument widget in the My Account section of RolandCloud.com. Simply, click the trash can icon next to your current selection, and pick your new instrument of choice. You can change this as many times as you'd like with an active membership, but once the membership is inactive, the choices are locked in. Great question. Thanks!Echoes in the Attic wrote: Fri Oct 21, 2022 4:03 pmAnyone? Hi, kode54. Sound Canvas VA is still very popular. It's remained largely the same for a while, but we will have some updates in the future. Stay tuned!kode54 wrote: Fri Oct 21, 2022 9:02 am What a waste of $9.99.
