If Behringer was making these, it would cost 50 euros.
Also, this controller is not much different from the Behringer Pro-1,
it doesn't utilise the digital advantage - being able to change presets and see the values on the controller, like in Nord Lead 3.

Plugins dont talk to the outside world at all. They dont see hardware devices, and they dont access them directly.

A plug-in can talk directly to the OS, at least on macOS. I haven't tried it on Windows, but would expect it to work there as well. It can check which MIDI hardware is connected, open MIDI inputs and outputs and send/receive MIDI directly from them just like a normal application, without help from the host.

Yeah, and that's basically selective quoting.

The bit where I already addressed this was this:

To change that, you'd need to add very nonstandard stuff to the plugin, stuff that would probably conflict with the host.

Im aware that there are plugins which have done this, but their problem was always 'ownership' conflicts on MIDI ports, because its not intrinsic to any plugin API.

how many different ones will you need for the average track? or do you only use one soft synth for everything?

although, behringer are doing it the other way, they did announce plug in versions of all their hardware synths, so just hold on till they catch up on the release schedule.

Think of a Novation Peak, but the sound engine is in the plugin, and the hardware is only a controller.

It's real easy to setup up a user template for any other soft synth (or hardware) not included in the list.

The Roland System 8/1 work like that, the plugins from Roland legendary series respond 1:1 to the hardware controls, they even have a GUI that follows the hardware layout.

Some other plugins can be mapped through MIDI learn to hardware synths, The system 8 does well for Diva or any other JP8/Juno emulation.

What would be needed to take this concept further would be a way to remap the controls on the hardware, also for oscillator wave and endless encoder would be better since most modern synths have way more than 5.

Did the amount of templates diminish over the years? I think I only had one MIDI controller which has 20 templates overall, and, most of the newer ones have much less than that.

I don't think so ... I copied the list from the Novation site, and it matches what my ReMote 25SL came installed with (in 2005). There's space for a few user presets too.

The only thing missing from this bad boy is aftertouch but I have my Erae for that. Honestly, this seems like the controller I've been after for the past 20 years.

I'm eyeing that MPK controller as well, seems pretty nice... for cheap.
