Controlling hardware remotely?

They get a lot more expensive if you need patch bay functionality or a merger (requires a micoprocessor). But for the typical use case of connecting a PC (with the PC capable of handling any routing), new ones are totally affordable. A 1x1 comes in around 15-20.

Once again, the real cost if you can't buy locally is P&P, which can make up a significant percentage of the total cost. Presumably you should be able to shop locally though.

yup just basic 4 in 4 out is enough.
i could check if the crea8audio synths do different channels of course, then go midi thru, but then id need to buy more cv to midi adapters, which would probably end up costing as much as your midi4x4 anyway

I have a Midiman (M-Audio) Midisport 4x4. I bought it 10 years ago second hand for 40€ and it still works great! (Windows 10 x64 - drivers)
I can imagine that you can find it even cheaper nowadays.

(I wouldn't buy it for its looks... ugly 60s/70s )

ha! that's what my old one was, the early old silver model
id happily get another, although i paid a bit more for mine, i can't complain about how long it lasted, was using it for over 15 years

ah sorry, mine was a midi sport from maudio. same thing pretty much, just old computer type colours, that silver grey.
have just double checked with a couple of other cables to make sure, and still no connection at all. oh well, not a major investment to worry about

I know, any piece of hardware can die at any time, for seemingly no good reason...
My oldest one is a Microwave II XT, still working perfectly. I could sell it for a lot more than I bought it for. That would probably be the smart thing to do - but I don't want to! Maybe it'll die tomorrow (curse myself), maybe it'll work for 20 more years.

Back in the days I had an Opcode interface with 16 Midi ports. Now I got an ESI M4U eX, it has 8 ports which can configure itself as input or output… That way you never run out of ports…
