(Not meant as a dig at towards Ardour at all - but if you ask... )
Is it the giant colorful blocks that make it look more advanced and innovative?

Nope, certainly not. It has a lot do to with being done by a professional designer though, rather than by someone who does the graphics besides being a coding and audio wizard. Hats of to Paul to even come up with such a good GUI in the first place. Plus the Studio One GUi is very modern in all regards (e.g. it's still one of the only DAWs that have full multitouch-compatibility). But it is a lot newer too, so that's not really much of a surprise.
So you associate a visually pleasing GUI that looks modern to being more advanced and innovative for live performances? We are comparing the Show Page verses the Clip Launcher, for the live performance aspects only. I think some people are confused about the initial question in the first place, it has spawned a lot of misunderstanding and misinformation.
Ardour is now more advanced and innovative for live performances than Studio One 6?

Like I said. They weren't actually asking a question.
Studio One // Bitwig // Logic Pro // Ableton // Reason // FLStudio // MPC // Force // Maschine

Yes, I got it - but I replied anyway for the fun of it... I must admit it got boring really quick though.

Reading and comprehension and two separate things.

You might not know it, but indirectly Bitwig took notes from Ardour. I used Ardour occasionally and was very confused that there was no vertical zoom. Then I had a short chat with one of the developers, and he showed me the exponential waveform view. I found this was such a brilliant way to speed up precise editing compared to any other DAW. I did nag Bitwig a bit to implement it. Obviously they found it great as well, though editing classical recordings isn’t their core field… They gave it a different name though…
I have never seen a more direct connection between users and developers than in Ardour. Still, my main workhorse remains Bitwig. (Much better source to get inspired than Live for future enhancements…; - )
