Is this a bug in Cubase or am I missing something?

For years and years I've had this random thing where the midi notes in a midi 'box' on the project window do not trigger a synth. It seems totally random and its either 1 synth or multiple synths.

So when you press play, the midi notes do not trigger the synth, so I confirmed the obvious things like:

* Velocity is positive
* no other midi data/automation doing anything to cause it to be silent (literally only midi info is
velocity)
* I can play the sound from my keyboard just fine
* If I solo the track it plays as it should!

Wtf is that?

So just before finished this post I checked whether it was a MIDI track or an instrument track, it was an instrument track, so I created a MIDI track whilst the instrument track was created and it auto selects the same instrument.

The midi track works when you play back, but also the instrument track also now works! that really does seem like a bug?

Double triggering or MIDI notes not triggering is usually the result of incorrect MIDI settings and/or not disabling "Local Control" on the hardware synth.
Take a single oscillator, producing a drone. Send it to the wave shaper, altering the tone.
This can be a triangle, Sawtooth or a square. Modulate the pulse width, nobody will care

I remember this issue from a long time ago. I used to have some old freeware plugins that would only work as midi tracks and not as instrument tracks. They weren't that great anyway so I quickly ditched them.

Does this only happen with a specific plugin or is it a general problem?

Edit: Oh wait, is this a playback issue with a plugin instrument or a hardware synth?

I haven't noticed anything like this in Cubase. Can you post a small project where this issue occurs?

Are you sure the note does not precede the clip? For example, if a note is just before a beat, and you trim the clip on the beat, the note may still be there (and greyed out), but it won't sound. Might this be the issue?
