for asgard!!!!ReverendLove wrote: Sun Oct 23, 2022 8:54 pm FYI bigSky has 12 machjnes wich can have two or more algorithms. Any comparison is flawed here.
BTW, I could never use the plugins named after the hall of the slain in Northern European mythology. I would never feel good using them. To much hybris, darkness and drama.

does anyone do a "heavens gate" gated reverb?WatchTheGuitar wrote: Sun Oct 23, 2022 10:17 pm And yet they’d happily use a reverb named after Karl Bigsky, the notorious mass murderer?

I'll most likely get this one when it goes on sale. Definitely look forward to additional Strymon plugins. How's the performance on Windows?

Pretty terrible in all honesty. One instance uses 17% of a single core here using Reaper's "Display CPU as 1.0C = 1 one core fully utilized" option. That's something like 17 or more ValhallaDelays in series.stuman wrote: Mon Oct 24, 2022 1:22 am I'll most likely get this one when it goes on sale. Definitely use sparingly.
This is on an AMD 3950x system.

I did try Cinematic Room Pro, and I was very impressed. For natural sounding rooms, I agree it blows away most of the competitors. Better than Big Sky too, but like I said, I’m mainly interested in the more interesting algorithms for special effects. I’ve got really good rooms already, in B2, which I could get to sound pretty damn close to CRP, but its so fiddly that I’ll probably end up buying. CRP and Big Sky this Black Friday. I like B2, but the interface has always bugged me, especially when I just want a good sounding natural reverb.vitocorleone123 wrote: Sun Oct 23, 2022 4:27 pmFair enough. Like I said, I've never been enamored with the BigSky sound or FX when hearing it online, and using the demo has confirmed that for me. I also agree with the other person who said that it's a shame that the controls are so limited in the plugin, and that summing to mono is the only option. I do appreciate that another bigger name in pedals has released software.zerocrossing wrote: Sun Oct 23, 2022 3:57 pmI’ll disagree with you there. There’s something about all the Strymon algorithms that I just love, especially the weird ones.vitocorleone123 wrote: Sun Oct 23, 2022 3:07 amThen again, I compare Big Sky to Cinematic Rooms Pro, and the same thing holds true: Big Sky sounds like $200 (or less) compared to the $400 CRP (in the areas of overlap, which is generally the only ones I care about, as the special FX of the Big Sky haven’t ever thrilled my ears).
[edit]Looks like LiquidSonics makes a $199 version of Cinematic Rooms. I’m not sure I need all the “Pro” stuff, so maybe that could get on my list as well. It’s going to be a software Christmas!
I can't drag and drop instances, but one reason I appreciate my Meris pedals - other than the sound - is the MIDI, and using Studio One it's so easy I don't even have to use the hardware if I don't want, but can use them like single-instance plugins. In fact, my Mercury7 is not convenient to reach and it doesn't matter because of MIDI. I liked pedals and plugins that blur the line, and applaud Strymon for releasing this.
Cinematic Rooms: demo the Pro version vs the Standard. I heard a difference in the early reflections and wanted the best (for my ears) reverb. So I got CRP on the BF sale with loyalty discounts. Think I paid $225 or so and it's among the best money I've spent on music gear (wallet would've been happier if I hadn't heard a difference between Standard and Pro). For me, it's The One reverb - the one that immediately sounded right to me, unlike all the others I have/had.

Comparing Big Sky with Cinematic Room Pro sound weird to me.
My first subjective experiments with BS impressed me.
There's of course many options in this effect family like many said before, but to me, Its still a quite unique one.
It really has "its own sound".
Really need to add YMVV?

So comparing room and halls across reverbs is weird? Interesting.nordickvr wrote: Mon Oct 24, 2022 3:57 pm Comparing Big Sky with Cinematic Room Pro sound weird to me.

Is it interesting? What is the purpose of BigSky vs Cinematic Rooms? Lets see:vitocorleone123 wrote: Tue Oct 25, 2022 6:12 amSo comparing room and halls across reverbs is weird? Interesting.nordickvr wrote: Mon Oct 24, 2022 3:57 pm Comparing Big Sky with Cinematic Room Pro sound weird to me.

Not sure BigSky was created for "the most demanding score mixing and post-production workflows". Its an effects pedal with some unique algorithms.

I have existing reverb plugins. I compare ones I am considering to the ones I have. I know I sure don't do demanding score mixing and post-production. I just hack together some music now and then.

About the price, Valhalla charge just $50 for Shimmer, and another $50 for Vintage verb - but with Big Sky you are getting all those reverbs in one place for $200, so its about the same as Valhalla in the end. I go through the presets in my video (and see description below of what each preset is), it sounds pretty good, and you can try it via a 7 day trial.
Room (studio ambiance – club acoustics)
Hall (arena size for hugeness and concert for warmth)
Plate (Richness & depth without early reflections)
Spring (ranging from warmth to lively)
Swell (subtle evolving textures)
Bloom (smoothness)
Cloud (large reverb)
Chorale (supporting choir sounds with a hall type of reverb)
Shimmer (beautiful ambiance)
Magneto (spacy echo)
Non-linear (special effects)
Reflections (small-space reverb)
