My main DAW is Reason 12, however this morning I started making a track in Lite and figured I will need more tracks than allowed 8. Sure there are workarounds, like bouncing and combining certain tracks into one or moving everything to Reason (which I did once already). Too much time consuming and I am lazy too and prefer to do everything in a DAW I started it and right now Ableton helps me to think more out of the box.
My question is not about that, my question is: if I upgraded from Lite to Standard for 299, how much would cost upgrade from Standard to Suite if I ever decide to do this in a future? Current upgrade prices are 299 for standard and 529 for Suite.
I googled and some older posts say the price later will be 229, which is nice. No money lost. But also can't find anywhere information about Ableton support for upgrades from Standard to Suite. Do they exist at all?
P.S. Not interested in Max For Live or any packs or instruments inside Ableton. Just general usability.

Upgrade from Standard to Suite is the only upgrade path that costs more than buying Suite directly.
Going from Lite to Standard to Suite is going to cost more than Lite to Suite.
I think you are comparing current non-sale full prices ("upgrade prices are 299 for standard and 529 for Suite") with a past sales discounted price ("some older posts say the price later will be 229").
I think Standard to Suite price outside sales is closer to $360 (EDIT: this is USD).
(Most Ableton sales are 20%. 25% happens sometimes. I think they only did 30% twice in 21+ years.)

It would be expensive route to upgrade now to standard then to suite. I have Standard 11 and the price to upgrade to Suite (in Ableton shop) is $369 now.
It is better either to buy Standard or Suite directly. I have upgraded Lite to Standard here in Best Service:
https://www.bestservice.com/live_11_sta ... grade.html
They have also from Lite to Suite:
https://www.bestservice.com/live_11_suite_upgrade.html
The cheapest is to find Suite here in the 2nd hand market, but be ware and always pay PayPal Business option and transfer license not buying an account. If you are lucky, you can find it here $360 to $400.
The thing is Live is not the only DAW I have. I also have my soft/hard synths and instruments and I don't care for M4L, so Standard is great for me, but if you need Max for Live and the additional instruments and content, then go Suite directly (save for it instead of going Standard then Suite).

Oh, that's a bit much, 369 dollars from Standard to Suite. I imagined it would be 299 tops when not on sale. Thank you for reply.EnGee wrote: Tue Oct 25, 2022 9:50 am It would be expensive route to upgrade now to standard then to suite. But what do you mean to buy fresh license of Standard instead of just upgrading from Lite to Standard? Do you mean that my upgrade from Lite > Standard > Suite will cost more than Standard > Suite?
Same for me, M4L is not my cup of tea, I do not need Operator or Wavetable synths or any additional CV capabilities or additional sound packs. That's why I am wondering is it really worth it for me to buy 529 dollar software instead of 299. I already have Reason 12 with tons of drum samples that will last me forever. And the rest of the sounds I make myself.
Yes, those are non-sale prices for those who have registered copy of Lite version. Ok for example I pay 300 euro for Standard now. Full Suite costs non-sale 599. So what you're saying, my upgrade from Standard to Suite will cost more than 299 euro, correct?pottering wrote: Mon Oct 24, 2022 9:44 pm Upgrade from Standard to Suite is the only upgrade path that costs more than buying Suite directly.

Yes, Lite to Suite is cheaper than Lite to Standard to Suite.
If you have Lite, then there is no reason to buy the non upgrade version of Standard unless you find a non upgrade version cheaper (for example, from sell & buy sub forum here in KVR.
The prices in the links I posted are $256 for Standard upgrade from Lite and $453 for Suite upgrade from Lite.

There are so many helpful tools available as M4L plugin, I wouldn't miss that. The new Microtuner is also a M4L plugin....Propellerhands wrote: Tue Oct 25, 2022 3:52 pm Same for me, M4L is not my cup of tea, I do not need Operator or Wavetable synths or any additional CV capabilities or additional sound packs. Are you sure Ableton Live is the right choice for you?
If you just need a DAW for mixing, then maybe Reaper could fit your needs....

Ok, I get it now. By the way, prices in that website for me are exactly the same as in Ableton website, 299 and 529. Leaning more towards Standard since there is literally not a single feature, instrument, effect or pack in Suite that I would use so all those 70GB of content would not be used. The only difference is the colour thumbnail, Blue vs Black.EnGee wrote: Tue Oct 25, 2022 4:50 pm Yes, Lite to Suite is cheaper than Lite to Standard to Suite.

My main DAW is Reason 12, you misunderstood, I do not look for another DAW. Especially not Reaper. I'd rather get Bitwig Studio for 200 new (my local dealer sells it with 50 percent discount). But I am fully satisfied with Reason and Ableton combo, only recently decided to make a full song in Ableton and running low on tracks.Rastkovic wrote: Tue Oct 25, 2022 5:33 pm Are you sure Ableton Live is the right choice for you?

Oh! So maybe the prices for me were excluding the VAT and maybe for you including the taxes! Another website to try is Thomann.Propellerhands wrote: Tue Oct 25, 2022 6:24 pm

Are you on Windows or Mac?
If you are on Windows, you might search for Live Suite 10 in the 2nd hand market here in KVR. You might find it for $200 or so. It is excellent DAW on Windows and also it is cheaper to upgrade to Suite 11 than the Standard if you want in the future (in Ableton website).
The reason that I didn't buy Suite 10 is that I don't use Windows only, but Mac mini M1 and Live 11 has native support for M1 but Live 10 doesn't. Also the Hdpi support is better in Live 11 and I have a 4k 27" monitor scaled to 150% (so 2k in both OSes).
Anyway, I encourage you using Live (whatever version). It is really an incredible DAW if you stick to it and learn it well. I don't think you need Reason even! The drums are very usable in Live and using the drums racks is a pleasure. I'm using mostly Logic Pro, but using Live more than S1 and Cubase (and even might use it more than Logic!). It is just so easy to lay your ideas and continue concentrating on your music making using the excellent workflow and effects included. I'm sure you will love it, just stick with it and learn it well

Ah, VAT, always forget that some countries exclude itEnGee wrote: Tue Oct 25, 2022 9:43 pm

I decided to buy Standard version and now I see my upgrade price to Suite is 269, so if I wanted to go full Ableton Suite, I would overpay only by 40 euros. Not that much of a problem. I always liked Ableton minimalist look (on and off user for 8 years) but their instruments and fx specifically are "too minimal" for my taste. Perhaps I just got used to Reason's plugins. Will see, maybe it will stick with me now and I will switch fully next year. Thanks for your help!

I also suggest those two tutorials to speed up with midi (especially the second one is excellent) whenever there is a discount:

and

I paid $221 in Dec 2017 direct to Ableton to upgrade from live 9 standard to the suite. So that was round the holidays.
$178 to upgrade from 10-11 suite, 10 was free iirc. Anyway, definitely on sale, not going to pay if there is no sale pretty much.
