Dave Smith would have called DCO analog.

anything with MIDI in it, is controlled digitally anyway. so you'd have to be a pretty die hard fan to favor only "true" analog synths.
ok, there's of course CV and stuff, or the "i play and tweak everything in realtime anyway and have no use for automated band aids" option

The GAS is always greener on the other side!

The Alpha Junos have a digitally controlled oscillator which is different to a digital oscillator. DCO stands for "Digitally Controlled Oscillator", and is an analogue oscillator that has a digital clock to control it. A DCO produces an analogue waveform, not a digital stepped waveform.Markus Krause wrote: Tue Oct 25, 2022 5:50 pm
It's both. It has a digital osciallator (DCO) and an anlogue filter.

An analog oscillator under digital control. The signal is analog.foosnark wrote: Tue Oct 25, 2022 6:11 pm I probably shouldn't go off on a pedantic tangent, especially about (sigh) analog vs. digital.
But...
A DCO has an analog capacitor which builds up charge, and the phase is reset by a separate digital clock. The signal it produces is 100% analog, having never been represented numerically as bits. There is no phase accumulator, there is no DAC, there is no possibility of aliasing, etc.
I wouldn't call a DCO "digital." If I had to, I would call it analog. But I'd probably just call it a DCO.

Lol at this thread.
DCO stands for Digital Co-Oscillator. So its digital. Prove me wrong.
Sylenth1 and Virus Ti has that, thats why they sound so warm and so lush in software form factor.

Yep...so, we can remove that one from the list. As I said, it was derivative anyway.

We had a Sylenth on the bench the other day. Opened it up and...lo and behold...Curtis chips!

Nope, but my friend did who owns original Roland Alpha Juno and he said comparing boths insides looks similar. I yet to open my sylenth1 but i dont think my display monitor can be fixed aftervurt wrote: Tue Oct 25, 2022 6:35 pmare you sure? have you looked inside?Lbdunequest wrote: Tue Oct 25, 2022 6:33 pmNope, filters are analolg.vurt wrote: Tue Oct 25, 2022 6:33 pmsylenth has fully digital everything.Lbdunequest wrote: Tue Oct 25, 2022 6:31 pm Lol at this thread.
