Thanks for that, chris. Reviews are sticky business & it's easy for people to get the wrong ideas.

Might be constructive (not to mention informative) to mention that the problem was with ORION while using M42.

Since I use M42 v1.0 AND v1.1 with N-Track and Traction and have had NO problems what so ever.

He just mentions that "SE synths are not "Friendly" with orion". And gives it a bad review.

And while that may be true the point should have been made also that SE synths in general and M42 in particular work fine in other hosts. We who read and keep up with this forum know what is what. But to the casual passerby who reads the review as a basis to consider SE synths and M42 for download/purchase may be totally put off and not consider any SE synths.

There are some synths/EFX made using SE that work abominably. There are also some (dll and host systems) developed in Delphi and C++ that are buggered as well. I am just saying don't blanket the development system as being the culprit. The developer and their coding is ultimately the responsible party. And in the case of plugin dlls which are dependant on host systems not under control of the plugin developers the problem may not be the plugins implementation, might be the host.

I develop in C++ and Delphi and am getting up to speed with SE (regged) and I can create exes and dll's in any of those systems which can operate terribly but it is my code not the development system which does it.

Thats all

but i use the same synth in the same host as him and have no probs 8) could be a hardware issue at his end,cpu and so on,for instance iam currently working on a track that uses 5 m42s and an instance of absynth my cpu is barelly hitting 50 and im having no probs using my novation as a controller either.so i guess the issue could be one of many things and therefore not fair to blame orion :? beleive me im no fan boy of orion in a blind way i know it has its probs with a fair few se synths but not all,i dont know why if i did id fix it :)

still the bloody + on the warp ball looks wrong!

hi,
i really don't understand you all, blaming my review ...
what do you want ? a review like a copy/paste from the algomusic web site ?
i don't get the point to write a review and not mention any issue you could have.
i use this synth in a personal way with a different computer ( host, cpu, sound card ,driver, midi controler)
So why can't i mention my problem ?
the only realy concerned people was Tim, and he did not say anything, so what is your right to say something ?
if you have the time to correct my review just write your review !!!
the last review was from september 22, what are you waiting for ? :x
i am sad to see that people wait to critisize the review of others instead of writing something for a synth they love so much !!!
don't lose your time, be positive 8)

My motto as well 8) But I think Chris is right. We don't mind honest opinions, however..you are all more then welcome to write your own and tell of your experience in other hosts. This is OK with us.Please do. Nothing fancy...just from your gut. These reviews are not like the magizine reviews where you have to mention every feature and comment on it. You just tell your experience with it. Its not a technical review ( unless you are inclined to do one)

sorry if this is how i came across,i was more hoping people would see the problem could be any number of things so you were right,a review should be written from your own experiences 8)
which is what you did,no way should you copy anything from the algo site,as tim says probs need addressing.my point mainly was that two people using the same hosts and synth may not have the same probs as we may use diff hardware and such. 8)

peace out now make some tunes 8)

I find it interesting that although everyone responding to this thread (including Chris's review) thinks that the M42 nebula is a great synth, that there is dischord over the problem Chris described that he was having when using it with his host. (Even though he attributed it to Synthedit and not to the creation of M42 itself.) It seems as if this synth can bring out a lot of emotion as well as great sounds! I appreciate that Chris took the time to write his review and report his findings. These reviews help us all make our purchase decisions.

What I think is more important is Tim's response. His first concern is in finding the problem and getting it fixed in the next version. He didn't feel that he needed to defend the M42 (perhaps because he knows that the qaulity is there) and thanked the reviewer.

This says a lot about AlgoMusic and their customer support. A company's integrety is just as important as their products and customers can purchase from AlgoMusic knowing that they will get a high quality product as well as great customer support.

Keep up the good work AlgoMusic!
