It's underground but you can hear its influence on some mainstream hip hop.

punk-hop might be the crunk of next year, who knows..

Do you mean stuff like 99 Problems?
Sounds a bit Skooly D-ish to me.

Well, could be much worse, I'm sure.

Punk-hop? Isn't that what happens when you set fire to a punk rockers shoes? Or is that the genre that turned into flip-flop, you know, can't make up it's mind if it's punk or hip-hop? :hihi:

I'd say since they were sampled by the Beasty Boys.
Hmmm. Rick Rubin again. I'm beginning to see a pattern here.

So this is about n.e.r.d. ? I was hoping it was stuff like the Anticon label, or the stuff coming out on Lex you were talking about.

I remember bits from the first n.e.r.d. album that was scrapped but then bootlegged. It had a lot of promise, but then I heard their recent big business album, and it was just plain awful.

If that's punk I don't want any part of it.

Funny you know, but back in the day I always thought that Public Enemy were the logical extension of punk rock. Listen to Nation of Millions or Fear of Black Planet, way more punk than Green Day or Blink 182.

Post

depends on your definition of punk i suppose?
is it a sound?or an attitude?
i gor for atitude rather than a sound so would also agree with shamann that public enemy did it the punk way.f**k the man were makin music.thats punk not 3 chords and shoutin :x

sounds like another quirky trend that'll last as long as most trends in music... jesus, are we really so low on new ideas that all that can be done these days is recycle?
galaxy rayyys! powerful.

yeah i wasn't sure if the original post was about the neptunes or nerd or not but they've been given the official punk-hop title, i subscribe to both ethos though the sound and the attitude, sound wise it might come out really good mixing some real good punk with some real good hiphop but I don't think n.e.r.d are either
