Stripping tempo from midi file

Hello all,
A midi clip dropped into my sequencer (EnergyXT) often contains undesired tempo information, which can't be edited from the sequencer. The dropped clip changes and fixes the tempo of the project.
How do you all deal with this? Is there an external program which will load a midi file, allow the removal of the tempo data and re-saving of the file?
Ideally, I would like to be able to view the midi file line-by-line. (EnergyXT has this view, but the tempo data is not shown).
Thanks in advance.
Steve

Would this work?
- Determine tempo of the midi clip
- Set your project to that tempo
- Import the clip
- Set tempo of the project back
The clip should adjust tempo accordingly.

Many DAWs have a MIDI inspector/editor view that let you view the events. I'm assuming you're on Windows since you're using EnergyXT. When I was on Windows, I used Sonar/Cakewalk (now free) and used the MIDI Event List View for removing or editing MIDI events, such as tempo definitions. If you Google "MIDI event viewer editor", you'll probably find some simpler freebies that can do this, such as MidiEditor (http://www.midieditor.org/)
Logic Pro | LUNA Pro | OB-X8 | Prophet 6 | OB-6 | Rev2 | TEO-5 | Pro 3 | SE-1X | Minitaur | Deepmind 12D | Integra-7 | TR-1000 | Analog RYTM mk2 | Digitakt 2 | TD-3 MO | TD-3 | Maschine+

Thanks for the replies.
@BertKoor - I tried this, but the project tempo can't be changed. It reverts to the tempo of the clip.
After some poking around in EnergyXT, I found that I can change the tempo of the clip (but not via the event viewer - there's a separate way to edit the clip tempo). That solves my immediate problem.
@cryophonic - EnergyXT has an event viewer, but it only shows notes, program changes, controller parameters, etc., but not tempo. Googling "MIDI event viewer editor" as you suggested got me closer to what I was looking for, and I found MidiEditor. Still not exactly what I wanted, but it might be useful.
Thanks to both of you for your suggestions.

Hmmm... And what if you "select all" in the inserted clip, then copy-paste to a new midi track?
