Thanks
ahh, i see.Fornicras wrote: Tue Nov 01, 2022 12:00 pm Not scanning the plugins at startup created many problems for me, for instance, even though the VST works when opened in a new project, it does not work on a saved project. That's why I leave it on.
my plugin count is less than a third of yours. ( thats for all versions i guess)jinotsuh wrote: Tue Nov 01, 2022 12:34 pm I just leave it scan at start up, I got 2401 plugin count, and it only takes a couple of sec's, 9 or 10 which doesn't bother me.
My start up time is above 25 secs.
AND: i get two prompts that my midi controllers are NOT connected, if my keyboard and the usb-hub is off.
I have two click these away by hand.
....thats how my startup looks. And thats NOT something fluffy.
(refering here to the new V6. since bought it anyway)
ok, with all controllers switched on, my startup time is 21 secs.
Thanks for feedback !

It's only a lengthy time if performing a full scan. An update takes no time at all.jinotsuh wrote: Tue Nov 01, 2022 12:34 pm View - Plugin Manager - Update Plugin List, but from memory it's a fairly lengthy process.

That would be what logic expects. I've only ever done it once, and just to check it out, and like I said "but from memory it's a fairly lengthy process." Memory can be unreliable, especially for things so far in the past. I have no need for it, I just always leave scan at startup on like mentioned.inkwarp wrote: Wed Nov 02, 2022 7:53 pm It's only a lengthy time if performing a full scan. I am quite happy to be wrong/mistaken, it's not really an earth shattering thing, still overall it directs the questioner to the answer.

I was about to sell my copy of 6 pro, but then I was asked to mix some tracks for a rock/metal band I know and I decided to give it a go in Studio One. I have to say, it was a bit of a revelation. It's a fantastic DAW for mixing. So much nicer to work in than Logic (and I love Logic!). The contrast make you realise how 'old' Logic actually is, and how new Studio One is.

Any ideas why Joe is using this method:

It sounds/seems MUCH more click click click than the other method by selecting “record in layers” on the bottom toolbar, you get all the layers and the main comp track displayed for you without any additional clicks (this was noted in the video’s comments).
Is this method Joe is demonstrating somehow better? Or did the S1 6 remove the easier method?

1. Controller is not turned on or connected to the PC.
2. Start Studio One.
3. Studio One keeps its mouth shut.
4. Connect the Controller or Instrument to the PC
5. Studio One detects this and, if the controller was previously set up in the DAW, connects to it automatically.
This is how most other DAWs that I've used recently work: Cubase, Samplitude Pro, Live, Reason, etc.
I'm not sure if I have just hit the lottery in regard to the software I have had to use, but Studio One was the one outlier that popped up a modal dialog and required manual intervention to connect to previously set-up controllers if they were not connected when the DAW was launched.

As for the plug-in scanning, my experience mirrors the other person. It's like 20-40 seconds, with random dips down to 10 seconds or below. I am not sure of the technicalities behind the scanner (which the scanning time is so variable), but it's often quite long.
At this point, most DAWs really should have a background VST Scanner, IMVHO.
It's not as bad as Komplete Kontrol or Maschine 2, but it's definitely jarring when you're used to working in other software that does this in the background (Ableton Live), or does it much more quickly when one is triggered (after the first run - which I expect to be lengthy).
v6 didn't change this in any way since v5. It's the same, so I don't think it was worsened for anyone. It has just always been like that. Not scanning plugins on start up is problematic as it can cause issues when plug-ins are updated, etc. I do not find that to be a "reliable" workaround.
