This just came out - haven't tried it yet:TEAMB2014 wrote: Fri Nov 04, 2022 1:03 am Can anyone tell me if there is a VST for drums that plays pre-made loops or point me in the right direction of something free loop wise?

It looks like it comes with a decent amount of content:

That one looks good, picked it up yesterday but haven't been able to play with it much yet. Found the cheapest price at Loot Audio for $40:danielh02 wrote: Fri Nov 04, 2022 10:05 amThis just came out - haven't tried it yet:TEAMB2014 wrote: Fri Nov 04, 2022 1:03 am Can anyone tell me if there is a VST for drums that plays pre-made loops or point me in the right direction of something free loop wise?

That looks similar to Loopmash that Steinberg sadly dropped from Cubase. Though...if you have an older version of Cubase with Loopmash in it, you can copy it over into Cubase 12 so that it still works (can't load presets apparently). Then you need to use your old dongle on Cubase 12 to get it to work as dongle code is written into the plugins it seems. IMO one of the best plugins that Cubase used to include. It still has LoopmashFX, but that's of far more limited use.

In reply to OP question - you can still do that sort of thing in your DAW, depending on which one. The big boys should all have some means of chopping loops at hit points and assigning individual hits to midi notes. That gives you the actual loop rhythm and you can use a sampler or whatever to play the beat with other drum sounds, and mix and match them. Certainly Cubase has it in the sampler track and it will assign drums/notes to its Halion sampler too just to make it even easier - I'd be surprised if most others don't have something similar. Though that Loopmix does look useful - up to 6 loops makes for creativity. Actually I might have to check it out - using Loopmash in C12 is a bit of a pain TBH.

Microtonic from sonic charge has downloadable recreations of classic drum machines, along with their factory loops. There's also a huge database of loops and kits called Microtonic Patternarium. It's free once you have the plugin.
