Trensharo wrote: Mon Nov 07, 2022 2:45 amI'm not sure if I have just hit the lottery in regard to the software I have had to use, but Studio One was the one outlier that popped up a modal dialog and required manual intervention to connect to previously set-up controllers if they were not connected when the DAW was launched.
I have never experienced that, and I have at least half-a-dozen different controllers that I use. I can hot-swap them while S1 is running and they just work.
As for the plug-in scanning, my experience mirrors the other person. It's like 20-40 seconds, with random dips down to 10 seconds or below.
It's never random on my system. The first scan of the day is always a long scan and, after that, it does shorter scans until I restart the computer.
At this point, most DAWs really should have a background VST Scanner, IMVHO.

It's not as bad as Komplete Kontrol or Maschine 2, but it's definitely jarring when you're used to working in other software that does this in the background (Ableton Live), or does it much more quickly when one is triggered (after the first run - which I expect to be lengthy).
Honestly, if this is the biggest issue you have with Studio One, it tells me that it must be one hell of an application. It is something I honestly don't give a shit about.

It's not, it's just an annoyance and I'm speaking on topic re: the posts I am replying to and the dialog I am participating in. Otherwise, the thread [once again] becomes scattershot with thought traffic in twenty different directions.

That's the last post from you that I will ever read on this forum. Have a nice night. I'm over your trollish baiting.

"Notifications for Nothing" are annoying. Blocking me in return is a good way to avoid this.

Yeah, that's the way, take it all personally, as though nobody else had mentioned it. It was the fact that several people felt the need to pile on that made my response worth making. You just got quoted because your experience is different to mine.

Anyway, why does it matter? How many times in a session do you have to restart Studio One? I usually start it and let it go through all that stuff in the background while I am checking my email or turning on my speakers and MIDI controller(s). If it crashes during a session, which is does quite often when I close a project, it does the quick scan and is up and running again in a few seconds. Most of the time it takes longer to load a song than it does to start up, so if I was going to whinge about anything, it would be song load times.

donne. Thanks !

funny thing: i can gel now with S1 ....for my simple things !
i couldn´t in the past.
Seems S1-v6 can be now my "old cubase" replacement
The optimal user experience is:

1. Controller is not turned on or connected to the PC.
2. Start Studio One.
3. Studio One keeps its mouth shut.
4. Connect the Controller or Instrument to the PC
5. Studio One detects this and, if the controller was previously set up in the DAW, connects to it automatically.

This is how most other DAWs that I've used recently work: Cubase, Samplitude Pro, Live, Reason, etc.

I'm not sure if I have just hit the lottery in regard to the software I have had to use, but Studio One was the one outlier that popped up a modal dialog and required manual intervention to connect to previously set-up controllers if they were not connected when the DAW was launched.
Bruh! That's already how Studio One works. It just has the added OPTION of notifying you that your device isn't connected, if you so choose. Because that's some thing a lot of people might like to know.

I'm loving Studio One. I got the Artist version and it has some great features, I found it very intuitive, and it looks pretty.

It performs well on my old system except for one thing: I start to have buffer underruns after I load some instances of Pro EQ3. It's clear that I won't be able to use it on every track, at least until I get a better PC.

Are you using a Focusrite Audio Interface?

Yeah, Artist has everything I need and it's way cheaper. There are settings you can change to minimise buffer underruns in teh Audio Set-up.

Nuance doesn't have time stretching either, AFAIK.
Is Bliss any good as a sampler?
No time strech either, AFAIK. The sampler situation is pretty critical lol.
Momentum is a free plugin for working with samples.

I finally, after years of procrastination got around to sorting all my plugins into folders based on their type, I'm wondering if I update to 6, will the folder heirarchy port over from 5 or will I have to do it all over again ?

Looks like the Holiday Sale has began. No savings on upgrades directly from PreSonus though. :ud:

There is no discount on perpetual upgrades this year, only for Sphere and new customers. Its the same across all sites that sell them. Presonus wants everyone to go sphere.

I suspect a lot of people just want the DAW which on its own isn't worth subscription

Yep. Im one of those. I have no use for additional stuff thats added. 3rd party alternatives I already own are much better.

Post

I really don't like that Sphere thing. I just want the core DAW not subscription stuff. Too bad the upgrade is not on sale :( Well maybe next year.
