I opened up my mic to address a terrible something loose, rattling sound.

I fixed that, but now I don't know which way the capsule goes in. Which is the front, which is the back? What side do I sing into and what side goes behind me?

Does the side with the red wire face the singer or does that face the back. This mic is an MXL 990.

first rule of taking stuff apart, take photos as you take it apart!!! then you know how it goes back together!

I kinda doubt the design of a mic would include the cable and connector to the capsule actually occuluding said capsule.

What times we live in. Not so long ago I had to wait a week for the photos to come back developed from the lab, before I could screw all back into place

as a pervert, i owned a polaroid quite early on.
