I much prefer hardware, I can twiddle on it while my wife watches tv or something, don’t have to be stuck in front of the computer, and I do prefer the hands on editing to using a mouse. I don’t make synth based music though but I like to incorporate synths in my music. I’m sure you can recoup your money selling it again if you choose to.

Ah, my music is 90% synths and I run it through my computer for effects anyway. Knobs are definitely more fun, but honestly I prefer being able to see the true value of every paramater in the software to having knobs. Didn't know till I tried though I guess.

You might like the Nord Modular G2, it has LED's around every knob so you see the values. Only 8 knobs but still very easy to work with. Nord Lead 3 has the same feature and way more knobs (nearly knob per function) but the sound doesn't offer much compared to software.

Sound-wise, something like the MS-20 Mini is more distinct from software than the REV2, IMO.

Oh well, I guess the silver lining is that you should be able to make a small profit off it (assuming the 1400 you paid was in $USD).

Yeah if I resell I should definitely be able to at least get my money back. I might try a Summit out too, see if maybe it was just the sound of the prophet im not fully gelling with (i am used to using roland emulations).

Not recommended, TBH. Have you thought of just getting a System-1 or System-8 and using it to control your Roland plugins? I haven't tried that myself but it's always seemed to me like a good idea, particularly since used System-1's are so cheap.

Can you elaborate? So you had all these 3 great synths and sold them?

I had a Rev2 for a while. It didn't give me the classic analog tone I was looking for. Jexus' thoughts (from creating preset packs) sums it up nicely. https://sounds-for-synths.com

Yeah had them all at the same time.

Novation and REV2 are good, but neither really have the analogue 'fizz'.

Prologue has a rather special sound, that would suit synthwave. The downside is that you have a lot less modulation options than the Summit or REV2, but I would argue that since a lot of synthwave is using sounds from older Juno, Polysix and Sequential Pro1/Prophet5 synths that had less in the way of modulation in the first place, my priority would be fizz rather than features.

All the way from "crap" he heard to "Then came the experimental phase resulting in embarrassment on my part – I realized that throwing this synth out of the window would have been a big, big mistake."

I love my REV2-16 module that complement Prologue-8 real nice. REV2 has extensive modulation options and features like free running DCO's so different phase on oscillator as they start.

Having these two I sold Polybrute, it was obsolete. I got more exiting timbres out of the remaining two.

REV2 spec says 8 modulations lots, but in real life there are more than 20. Each of 4 LFO has it's own route to modulations, as well as AUX envelope and well as 4 gated sequencers that can be used in very interesting ways. and there are 5 more routes like velocity and DC as well.

Having true dual timbre/parts you also have effect on each layer separately. Not only amount, any effect in each layer.

And neat copy features on Layer A to B and such and just tweak one layer a bit and get a nice stereo binaural effect.

REV2 is very well thought out, and so easy to find new stuff. And with 16 voices you can really go wild. Unison though is a bit limited, so I usually do dual layer instead with 8 voices each for a thicker sound. Unison is only mono, but can be mixed in one layer with the other layer of course.

This is a good point for OP before giving up on the REV2. I always liked its unison and this is even better.

Have you recorded any parts and properly listened back? Maybe you need to spend a bit more time with it.

What soft syntha are you comparing it to? And what type of music are you making?
