I like the fact that they actually built analogue circuits on a breadboard to prototype their synth.
I agree, and so good that they shared that about the process. I'd love to hear even more. There was a bit more added on that thread.

Whatever he's doing, it's working really well. It sounds great, and their Opal synth does too.

I’ve just checked his resume. It looks rather interesting. He’s got great experience. Wonder if UAD will be cooking more software synths in the future. Or what about a decent sampler which emulates DAC on this level?
My biggest wish from them however is a PCM42.

If you run something through the 224 with the reverb turned down, you might be able to use the sound of its DAC on other samplers or delays.

Yes!

Nope... I just retaliated (as I've said previously). Go back and look at the original posts that were made. He started it I just ramped up the level.

Anyway, as far as I'm concerned the matter is now closed. :tu:

Carry on...

Deeper look maybe....

All you get is "sounds better to me when I listen to it on youtube"...

Priceless. Going outta here.

(to repeat: I have it installed here...it is an ok synth. Actually, it's above marginal. But free U-he Tyrell or Super 8 can top it easily. While paid releases such as Repro or I don't know...Serum?...they destroy this..don't bullshit me with 24khz tones or clinical phase differences seen only on analyzers)
Now I get me some popcorn! Back on topic and really hot!

Really, audios anybody?

The sound is good, definitely the level of quality Universal Audio is known for. It’s just kind of…boring.

The posted video is a nice primer for somebody who already has his first hour with a synth under his belt. Awesome bloody beginner tutorial. Otherwise: Officially un-exciting. Good standard stuff. Far from outstanding. My 2 cents.

Lots of two oscs synths could be described as 'boring'. Yet it doesn't stop people making great music with them.

Personally I look at it as a solid little synth, with a great solid clean tone, that will cover a decent range of basic synth sounds really well.

The voice stereo spreading is really nice.

Agreed that the PolyMAX sounds fantastic based on the videos, but I have to admit that the usage of MAX in the name might be a bit too much and a misnomer. There’s not much about this that is MAX, in terms of features

I'm just surprised that it's even missing features from the synths it's inspired by. That's kind of a first. Would much rather have seen proper Cross Mod, too.

What sort of things do you think are missing, that say a Moog sub 37 or vermona 14 might have?

Isn't the linear FM essentially a kind of cross modulation?

I'll be honest, I'm not sure I understand the difference between FM versus proper Cross Mod, but otherwise, yeah, no Prophet-esque PolyMod, no atertouch, they could've at least thrown in a "Vintage Knob" to slop things up! Not to mention the hardwired MIDI CC assignments and lack of Learn functionality. It might have a great base sound (I'm yet to demo) but there's just too much missing here for UA's only analog polysynth IMO.
