those of us old enough to remember jet set willy on cassette, you know what i mean.
anyone who had (or has) dial up internet, knows!
anyone who ever dialled a fax number, you're in too!

sqeeeeeeeeewizzzzzttquuuuuuiiiiiiooooooosqwitz...

i would like.

or, some way of exploding modern code to its base audio file.
ie convert "any program file" to the noise above, assuming code still sounds like that :o maybe it's gone more melodi? either way, id like to find out!
hit me!

Vurt, you're looking for modem samples? Like these?
https://freesound.org/search/?g=1&only_ ... 0%22&s=&w=

Glitchmachines used to offer a sample pack called Parallax that also had such things, but I don't see it listed on their site anymore. "Parallax is a new sample pack by sound designers Ivo Ivanov and Alex Retsis, featuring over 1300 raw sound effects inspired by vintage computer technology and old school video games."

Seems that you could also get there with a bitcrusher.

:dog: didn't even think of freesound for some reason.

thanks 8)

ill have a hunt for parallax maybe, don't need much of it, so freesound will probably be enough.

Added this to my original after you replied.

As far as converting any program to such sounds, beyond my knowledge, but I'd poke around on github for modulator-demodulator code, like this.
https://github.com/ShortRoundDev/modem
or this

That first modem project on github has binaries for mac (32-bit?) and windows, and even a YT video.

That may be as good as it gets. The first set of bleeps and bloops that we associate with modems were just handshaking by the devices and not actual modulation of underlying signal.

[EDIT: the mac binaries are actually 64-bit "modulatemac: Mach-O 64-bit executable x86_64" and since there are is only one C file to compile, should be easy to compile it on any platform]

Somebody did a set of game console samples like pushing the buttons and even blowing on a cartridge... not computers but not too far, either.

I'm sure there's also old floppy and hard drives spinning, CRT monitor capacitor whine and all that out there, too.

And not samples but related, Chipcrusher includes various DAC emulations and noise profiles for emulating sounds coming out of built-in Mac speakers and old phones. While you're at it, why not join the Scroll Lock Club?

that's awesome, i like the reversing it too, getting the image from tape. definitely what im looking for (although no desire to recreate the program, just want the noise)

thanks 8) you rock!!!

No problem Vurt. I love these types of challenges and I have a library full of such noises, and may be revealing my age, but I worked for an ISP back in the day where we had racks and racks of modems. So perhaps I do know a thing or two more about it than I thought. :D
