Hi! I'm going into production with hardware. And I would like to know what are the possibilities to mix/record without having to turn on the PC? Like a device (soundcard?) with lots of inputs that records to a usb stick or micro sd.
How do the pros do it, without a PC?

here the 24 channel version, but exist as 16 and 12 channel version too.
All record to SD-card. Pricetags around €1000 for most expensive.
They also have older DP-series portastudios with 24 and 32 channel versions. Really cheap around €600 or so. Also SD-card based.
From some YT reviews electronics are way better in Model-series than DP-series. What Model series lack are automation for everything mixed down, you have to manually move sliders as mixed down.
But maybe the best workflow and convenience if mostly targeting midi recordings might be Akai MPC X with 10.5" screen. Only 8 strict audio recording tracks, but 128 midi tracks. But had a hard time really get the concept how it worked, manual somewhat convoluted. 4-input channels at a time could be rendered.

I talked to Behringer about their Wing mixer that can mix 64 tracks from SD-card but got info that not working to record some tracks and listen to others, so not other than strict live recording device, not a studio recording device. Pricetag up around €3000 but if it did have same abilities as the others above could have been worth that. Way more effect plugins onboard.
