So some companies track how often you use their software.
I had no idea.
Pretty naive of me, right? What with checking for updates and stuff, I guess it was obvious really.
Do all companies log this and keep a record of users per month, for example?

I don't like it. at all. When I'm in Amplitube, it notes I am 'online.'
Can't turn it off without turning off wifi.

yes i care
then again, your OS is already sending gazillions of user data per second back home, even when you've disabled exactly that, unless maybe if you are using a Linux distro (which hopefully doesn't do this aswell)

Thank you Dr Spock. I was pushing towards a discussion of how widespread it might be as i don’t know, not a confirmation of the meaning of all.

only company i remember at the moment is NI, but you can disable it. wether every kind of tracking is actually completely disabled by that, who knows.
some copy protections like online verifications every now and then (or always) wouldn't even work without calling home

Well according to the thread where you pointed out that NI do it , there’s NI, erm…dunno, that was the idea behind the thread.
Is it just them? I really don’t know, the reason I made the thread was to learn

Context: in the Massive X thread, Evil Dragon said Massive has loads of monthly users. I asked how he knew. He didn’t reply but chk07 said it states/implies so in Massive menu and you can turn it off. ED said nothing, so he’s either blocking me or it’s true.
Bombadil says Amplitibe is a bit nosy too.
Any more?
Does it bother you? (Poll)

At least it's the only company which I ever had plugins from which had that option in the preferences. I don't know how many others (if any) do it.revvy wrote: Sat Nov 19, 2022 12:55 pmWell according to the thread where you pointed out that NI do it , there’s NI, erm…dunno, that was the idea behind the thread.
Personally, I don't have an issue with it, same with usage metrics. Actually, the latter is a great thing, because, that does what everyone is always demanding from companies: Listening to the user, i.e. checking which features are used the most.

If they are monitoring me to the level of watching which parts I click on I’ll uninstall all their SW and raise a bit of a stink.chk071 wrote: Sat Nov 19, 2022 1:59 pmAt least it's the only company which I ever had plugins from which had that option in the preferences.
