My aim is to make music, surprise sometimes, but in the end have fun. Anything over halfway placing is a bonus to me. That means half of you "liked" it :tu:

PS Battling with COVID at the moment, so hoping to get something done for next round. I might string my rough ideas together as a set of "movements" ... to at least get something in.
Thank you very much!
Really hope you get well soon!!

You should use something like Pau D'Arco (also known as Lapacho or Ipe Roxo)

The bark and wood of the Pau D'Arco tree are used externally and internally to treat:

arthritis
pain
inflammation of the prostate gland
fever
dysentery
boils
ulcers
various cancers

It also kills of various nasty stuff ;)

There is also Ephedra Sinica (Ma Huang), but I have no clue if you guys in the UK are allowed to import it for personal use, or if maybe some chinese herbalist close to you might have some?

You will not have to worry about breathing difficulties if you get some and make some tea... ;)

Oh and let us not forget the most important one, it is now scientifically proven that CBD kills the Corona virus and prevents it from replicating itself!

I know you have tons of CBD stuff in the uk...haha!
Hope you get well! :tu:

I don't think I could ever give advice to anyone on how to ”improve”, just let everyone do their thing and be happy! ;) Whose standards in creativity does anyone have to live up to really? Since most of the voting at the same time seems also to be very very subjective(!) Therefore I'm not even the slightest offended by getting 1s, :tu:

This probably has to do with the fact that while living in Cambodia a deranged psychopath Khmer Rouge asshole held a loaded gun to my head….to my suprise I wasn't even scared at all but the f**ked up experience has put other trivial bullshit like votes etc. in some context  But that is probably just me!
Totally agree with you Mr Chava :) I've always believed that there is no right or wrong with art. Let everyone do their thing and be happy - yes! But I think a bit of friendly competition motivates some of us to improve their skills or to push themselves creatively.

I was clear to say "IF you want to win" - since clearly it's not everyone's primary goal.

That's mad about Cambodia. Yeah helps get things in perspective. I visited my poor friend in hospital last night who's lost all his hands and and feet to sepsis. That's made my worries in my life seem insignificant. Life eh? So random. Blame quantum mechanics.

As a guy who consistently hangs around the bottom of the rankings, I have to admit to feeling a wee twinge of disappointment each month. BUT: I do get a lot of helpful advice and if I follow it, I might make it to the middle of the rankings. The biggest thing for me though is that I've gone from never completing a single track (prior to doing the OSC) to completing a track a month.

I really liked your entry this time. I think you lost a lot of points for the EQ on your mix being too tinny. You could try posting a draft to Discord and see what suggestions you get for the mixing - and see if you can improve the final version you submit.

I agree - left to my own devices I often don't finish tunes. The OSC concept and deadline gives me that motivation. I get something out of the door each month. Keep going!

I fully intend to give it a rework! Once I can find the time between this month's OSC and spending too much money on plugins in the sales...

forgot to mention, i'll pass on the prizes this month, unless i can donate it to #6 place.

Cute ... you believe that the "awesome" comments somehow "must" reflect in points. No, you can't expect that happen 100%.
You don't need to patronise me like that I was trying to genuinely get more feedback from those who didn't leave me a comment on how I might have improved my score in their eyes. I looked at the scores everyone who commented gave me and feel they are totally fair and have stated their case. I get that some people will provide possibly more kind or encouraging feedback which is great I will do that too but also appreciate blunt assessments of my work right or wrong. I can say for sure this month the general tone of comments I received was overwhelmingly more positive than recent which I guess took as this track is above average. Based on the scores it turned out to be about dead on the mean average but below the mode.

True I don't comment on everyone's tracks either but am happy to provide more feedback to anyone who asks especially if you want to know why I scored that way too.
emikaela wrote: Thu Nov 17, 2022 8:28 pm the "where are the points i missed out on" mindset doesn't reflect how most people seem to vote and carries a risk of focusing on the wrong things.
This I guess is the issue I am also trying to understand the motivations of those who vote and how they arrive at the score. I follow what to me are some logical guidelines on how I come up with a score and so to me I could easily say to someone why I arrived at a number and suggest how if improved would score it higher.

For me I will score a 5 for the top tracks in the field that I feel are both produced well, has great musical value, and has made quality sounds from the synth. 4's are often lacking in one of those areas. 3's are lacking in 2 of those areas. I have only given out I think two 2's and those are for tracks that are painful to hear. I will only ever give myself the 1 as everyone deserves at least a 2 for making an effort. ~90% of my votes are 3 or 4 with about 10% getting the 5.

For this track sure it is not perfect but I hoped the majority might have given it a 4+ but understand some may have disliked it to give it a 3 but have no idea why I and for that matter most got scores of 2 and even 1's (that were not from them). No one made track this month deserving less than a 3 IMHO.
I am wondering if we have a few people who need to think more about the scores they are giving and due to the limited number of overall participants and other judges, scores are going to be more volatile at least for the "average" tracks because of them.

Therefore I personally do not aim for a good place here. I want to learn and to get some constructive critics from you all.
When I play my music at home and ask my own family for some comments, they are not really helpful. They tell me, that it sounds professional or that it is not their genre. But you guys and girls can give me some more helpful insides. I am hungry for more, but that is the best I can get :D

Thanks for all this and best regards!
I am here to learn too and experiment etc and am hopeful of lots of helpful feedback. I am however competitive and would love to see progress in both the quality of my work and have others see that too by scoring appropriately and hopefully one day winning. I think coming 8th in my first attempt might have messed with my expectations and my judgement of my abilities as I think I am improving a lot but seem to be going the other way in competitions.
