The advertising for it was pretty entertaining thoughlol @ a car company coming out with a plugin. I can't wait to see one from Keebler.
Struggling for inspiration? Kia's got yer back!

The cynic in me says that they want to find that out by gathering data on who uses the thing. Maybe it doesn't cost that much relative to alternatives in terms of customer acquisition? Maybe it's a part of a strategy to attract a particular, e.g. creative youth, market segment? I recall in the late 80's that Ford produced a very lame "driving simulator." I've never owned a ford, but, I still remember that, so does that have value to Ford? They continued to produce video games, also pretty lame but better than their 1987 attempt, from 2000-2008.CinningBao wrote: Tue Nov 22, 2022 9:41 am I still don't understand the efficacy of a car company making a soft synth.
Why did they do this? Who is going to be tickled (and maybe coerced into buying a car?) by it?

Yep, in glorious four "color" CGA with a single digit frame rate on a good day. Late 80s Ford was the pinnacle of "Nothing is fuglier than a ford!" and that simulator drove (pun intended) that point home.zzz00m wrote: Tue Nov 22, 2022 6:00 pmFor DOS, LOL!!!ghettosynth wrote: Tue Nov 22, 2022 10:38 am I recall in the late 80's that Ford produced a very lame "driving simulator."

It could be a result of hiring sound designers to create noise for their electric cars. If they already have them in house or contracted in some manner, this makes for fairly unique marketing.

That's what I'm saying. As they had to develop an audio engine for car noise anyway, they have likely decided to use it for additional marketing purposes.dumbledog wrote: Tue Nov 22, 2022 8:49 pm Crazy thing is Kia/Hyundai actually seem to make use of it in their cars. Check this at about 12:40 (KVR doesn't seem to support timestamps on videos)

That's the exact reason. I know someone who was contracted to do this work and the reason is because people use car noise as a locator in addition to visuals when crossing roads. So adding some kind of engine noise back in should help to reduce the number of possible accidents.vurt wrote: Tue Nov 22, 2022 9:15 pmthey need it!Unaspected wrote: Tue Nov 22, 2022 9:10 pmThat's what I'm saying.
