I am liking what I here about Soundfont, but I dont quite understand wtf it is. Can someone plz help a nOOb?
I.E. Where do I get soundfont files of top quality, and what are they as opposed to anything else? Etc. Thanks in advance.

Post

Soundfonts are files that contains samples and playback parameters like envelopes and LFOs.

Take a look in RGC audios area here on KvR for a big list of soundfont sites.

Best VSTi soundfont player is SFZ by rgc audio.

There are a lot of second and third rate free soundfonts out there. You have to wade through a lot to find the gems.

To get good ones you will most likely need to pay for them.

soundfont.com and sonic implants do a good job at reasonable prices.

Also check out sonomics.

YOu can also pick up a converter, like Awave or Extreme Sample Converter, to turn some of your existing stuff into SF format.

:D I second that for Sonic Implants. Really good sounds at good prices and a wide range of quality depending on you budget. Free is nice and I have a few myself. But SI's quality can't be beat for a lot of must haves. Once you get into samples one library won't do. A little here and some there. Can't have too much
Pentagon,z3ta+,Tassman,Vsampler 3,FM7,Vocator,Sonar 3 Producer,SoundForge,Awave,Vegas 5
SFZ+,P5. And two kick ass DawBox machines!

Thank you all for the insight.
