I have it installed and fire it on occasionally to get the newest updates and to see if i like it better than the last time I did...

Indeed, and let's not forget licensing too. Managing installs is super easy - you're not at the mercy of remote servers to be available or dongles to be active. Plus the portable install option is really considerable for anyone wanting solid redundancy.

The 'cost' for a lot of competing DAWs is within the suite of tools they come pre-installed with, on that front REAPER is very vanilla and thus keeps cost down. Most REAPER rigs probably have total software investments of thousands once the plugins have been accounted for.

It's not 'cheaping' out if you're wanting the most CPU efficiency from those investments. You're purely paying for the base, and not doubling up on buying numerous included stock EQs/Comps/Instruments that you may never need.

Yes, Reaper is very good!

It's been a long time since I had a license, but it looks like Retrospective MIDI record is finally in there? That's been one of the main things keeping me in Cubase land.

Reaper is too expensive to me for what it is.... and I'm a person who actually pays for quality porn. On the internet. Tell you that
That's for how much I dislike it

Cool story. Live and Bitwig are too expensive for me too, for what they are… and i have a lot of expensive stuff. (And a recent demo of FL Studio is still lurking around on my Win machine too) Does this make them crap?

For YOU? yes

dunno, i would call them more “redundant“ for my use case, but what do i know? - at least regarding Live & Bitwig - FL Studio i hate (working with), but that's just a personal thing and obviously not universally valid.

You do know that for some reason or another you ruled them out

Sure, i ruled them out, because Reaper already does pretty much everything i need PERFECTLY fine. (Except for some 2 major annoyances in the forms of bugs on Mac that are not present on Windows)
The feautures those would give me over Reaper are either not super important to me (or not important at all) or can be achieved quite nicely with the help of some third party plug ins.

I'm sure i would survive quite well with either of the others too if i didn't have Reaper, but Bitwig would rub me wrong at least with it's price tag, which is almost as bad as a subscription model in my book.

Then why look elsewhere?
I do because although I like Live a lot, it's just not there yet. Logic is a clusterfuck of bugs and plugins not working... Renoise is the best i have, but I do also need to record vocals, and Renoise does not do that remotely well. FL is a frankenstein of a daw...

Big difference though, REAPER can clean itself up after you've finished a session (File > Clean current project).

Yeah, you can use sub-projects for that. Just create "me_giver.rpp" and repeatedly insert it into "me_receiver.rpp" project until your back arches.

Then File > Cleanup, and you're done for the evening.

Nice. That's what you should do, then.
Anyway...
