anyone here use max??
I was looking at the demo and didn't see anything spectacular. didn't see anything in there that reaktor couldn't do, at least audiowise... seems like the programmers made synth creation too difficult by adding all that c++ jargon. seems a little unneccesary. anyhow, am I missing anything here? is their like a feature that really makes Max/msp worthwile? thanks

hey,
At first glance this is what I thought when I first tried Max/MSP out, but I am offically addicted now. I love the fact you can integrate video & sound so well now with the Jitter objects.
I couldn't compare it to reaktor personally as I havnt used Reaktor often enough.
Check out this site as somebody has though.

Hmm interesting, I never could wrap my head around MAX, just a personal pref of how it "feels".
Also I dont know if you can make VST's with it, ar at least with ease? That chart thingy said no...
I was told by someone there is a Steinberg SDK? anyone every heard or know anything about this?
Not to hijack the thread...

I don't think you can really compare the likes of Max/MSP and Reaktor as they're pretty much chalk and cheese when it comes to what they're designed for. Reaktor is exclusively audio, whereas you could probably control a toaster, or hack up something that closes your curtains at night with Max if you so desired.

You can build VST's with MAX/Msp, but it's quite a complex procedure if your new to the program. I think it's about to become a easier with the release of Pluggo shortly for Windows. It's already available for MAC.

If you run out of time (the demo is time-limited IIRC, and you'll need more time than that) you could check Pure Data. Made by Miller Puckette (and well over a dozen other developers by now) who was involved with the developement of Max/MSP.outsomnia19 wrote:i'm definately going to invest some time in it. maybe i am missing something..
It's open-source, so no time-limits, but slightly more spartan.
It's similar to Max/MSP but not the same, so you still have to invest time studying Max/MSP but you'll be familiar with the way of working.
