Does FU count as profanity when used in a statement?

I emailed a company saying that their service felt like a FU to a customer.
The replied stating that any further profanity would not be tolerated and would result in my requests being deleted. Based on my local culture this is absolutely about as tame as we speak and I really feel I went out of my way to avoid profanity. What do you think?

I would think you’re dealing with someone who could not care less about you as a customer - their response meaning FU.
And, no, I would not consider your comments worthy of that response, hence my initial comment.
Screw them.

Well, let's just say that you could have put it more diplomatically.
And, a FU in my cultural circle is an absolute no-go. But then, we don't swear like the English natives here.
I would always opt for the more calm, less emotional and upset way. It's much easier to deal with support, and, really, anyone.

The intent is obviously there, so yeah, I can see where someone would take it that way.
I agree that it could have been more diplomatic, but I'm guessing that there's also quite a bit of context missing here.

Context is everything in this case. If you had spelled it out, then it would count. But if you’re simply stating it “feels like you’re saying FU to the customer,” then no, I wouldn’t consider it profanity. It’s pretty mild and reasonable. I certainly wouldn’t be offended if you said that to me in that way.thecontrolcentre wrote: Thu Dec 01, 2022 12:36 am Difficult to judge without any context ...

My Mormon in-laws would consider it a profanity. In my family, it was sometimes a greeting. Perspective.

it is, but any entity using that *excuse* is dodging the point, and I would _never_ want to do business with such. my next message would spell it for them

I read that as “Eff You”, which is tamer than an outright “F**k You”, but a step up from a “Screw You” which is what I’d use in the presence of polite company or with partners what which I’ve business dealings with.
So context and demographic are important lol, but yeah kinda sounds like whoever you’re talking to could use a tall glass of “f**k you have a nice day.” lol.

See that's the thing, I am calm. Where I grew up everyone was a C. If we didn't like someone we just wouldn't interact with them. If someone game me a lot of shit I knew we were mates. The words I use are no indication of my state of mind. I'd just my culture (or lack ofchk071 wrote: Wed Nov 30, 2022 11:38 pm Well, let's just say that you could have put it more diplomatically.

We even had an national add campaign for tourism paid for by the government, See You in the Northern Territory. Abbreviated to CU in the NT.

>edit< Actually on further inspection it wasn't created by the government. But it took off and was embraced nationally. Apparently it's ok not to accept some cultures hey?

My whole life in every job I have been sworn at like you wouldn't believe. It's normal where I'm from. No one gets offended by it unless they are not from here and then WE are supposed to change. Where else in the world does that happen?jancivil wrote: Thu Dec 01, 2022 2:58 am it is, but any entity using that *excuse* is dodging the point, and I would _never_ want to do business with such. my next message would spell it for them
Like it or not, believe it or not, my use of FU is as tame as it gets from my perspective. They are just words so what is the big deal?
