I’m going to copy a post I made on Mastodon. I truly believe this:
#MusicProduction
There are 20+ known
#AudioSynthesis types. The most popular being:
#Subtractive
#FM
#Wavetable
Combined with #Sampling, #modulating, #Layering, & #FX, these audio engines cover the majority of sound generation from the majority of #Synthesizer #Plugins created.
Unless a #synth provides a special character, there is no point in having more than a couple of synths.
#OpenSource has most everything you need.
Don’t collect synths for #patches, learn the tools you have.

(Also: I'm Accused of lying about Linux—it boots, runs my pro audio workflow, stays stable, updates--though yearly dismissed as “niche”. Yet I'm the deluded one.)

I respect that opinion for your own music and approach and yet I completely disagree with it. I have 20 or so in use and each does something better than another subjectively. (possibly objectively) Collectively they probably cost less than a Korg M1 did when it was released.audiojunkie wrote: Sat Dec 03, 2022 3:15 pm I’m going to copy a post I made on Mastodon. So I will use the best synth for any given task, always.. choosing the best tool. Making the best results with sonics is the role of the producer (at least in the common and modern sense of the word) as in some gal or guy in front of a DAW screen doing the entire thing.

My post was a copy and paste from the Mastodon social media platform (like Twitter, but decentralized), because I was posting from my phone, and it was faster for an old man (me) than trying to type my thoughts one character at a time with my index finger (like I’m doing right now)
In retrospect, my post was originally pointed at the open source crowd, and this crowd is different. It probably would have been better for me over all to not seek the easy way out and just post a new post directed to the KVR crowd. If I were to write it again, I’d probably say something like:
“We should find a good set of plugins that work best for our style and the way we work, and learn them well, rather than just collecting synths for patches. I think Vital is a great example of such a took for me.”
I think that would have been a better message that a lazy copy and paste. But now my index finger hurts.

Absolutely! What I posted was only an opinion. Use what works for you!fisherKing wrote: Sat Dec 03, 2022 3:41 pmcongrats for believing in your own point-of-view! we all get to believe what we choose...audiojunkie wrote: Sat Dec 03, 2022 3:15 pm I’m going to copy a post I made on Mastodon. I have a robot that does it for me.audiojunkie wrote: Sat Dec 03, 2022 5:52 pm How do you young guys get such high words per minute typing rates on your phones?
Because, why use a computer keyboard to type big texts - that would be silly!

Sorry. It was not well worded for this particular audience as well. It was a lazy attempt to share an opinion while on my phone. I prefer my keyboard.

Sorry, but 199 pages are a bit too much to scroll through:
