We're excited to present TDR SimuLathe, a new product range offering accurate simulation of the disk mastering/cutting process.

If you ever wanted to get your hands on a disk cutting lathe, dig into the beauties and subtleties of the craft, enjoy creative experimentation, want to prepare disk projects or produce digital test cuts, SimuLathe is your opportunity. 🙂

If you already operate a disk cutting system, looking to improve quality control, improve results and reduce costs, you'll possibly find great use for SimuLathe's precise modelling and pro grade predictive abilities.

SimuLathe is a precise simulation of the complete disk mastering process. With its specialized preprocessors, a precise virtual disk cutting lathe, several turntable pickup models, and extensive means of metering/analysis, this audio plugin acts like its own cutting room.

SimuLathe comes in two versions, find all details here:

SimuLathe REF (for audiences who don't operate a lathe)

SimuLathe CUT (for audiences who operate a lathe)

Congratulations for the release. It must be thrilling to release such a work after all the hours of research and development. Hope people like it.

Do we really need another cutting lathe simulation plugin? So sick of these! When will someone do something unique, like a plugin to compress the dynamic range of audio? Something way out there like that!

I'm joking of course. Congrats on the release. It's a niche plugin but will certainly be invaluable to vinyl mastering engineers.

Why?.. and $160 USD...??

You will see a little later on in this thread a poster who makes the erroneous assumption my comments are related to my ego/are about me. They are not and this user is just flat out irrelevant verging on trolling. Or they're a child.

I was talking about this product in the marketplace. Simply put, I don't see it being adopted by your ususual audio mix engineer simply because of the price and the other alternatives that exist. I don't see it being used by vinyl engineers because typically to be in that role they have to have production experience with vinyl. I just don't see how it will fit. TDL themselves reply "think of it as an over-engineered lo-fi plugins" ... for 160 USD.

My other comment was that this plugin is not an "effect" and the OP seemed misplaced here. SimuLathe seems to be a niche mastering product. Despite the irrelevant critisism of my comments, a few days later and all that people are posting is a congrats but no interest in buying it. That proves my point, so far. No one is jumping on this thing. Its a niche matering tool and the price is too high for those who might want to mix with this - there are much cheaper options.

That's all. Just a comment on this plugin from a market/use-case perspective. It's unfortunate that so many people trash plugins if it doesn't suit their own use to the point that we all automatically assume any critisism of a product is now ego driven. This prevents a good conversation from happening.

Not every plugin is made for you.

Why is in the product description.

You're wrong, I am not thinking about myself. I would imagine anyone working towards vinyl would use their or someone else experience vs a plugin - it's not like cutting vinyl is some standardized thing that you could use a plugin as a substitute for. But, good on anyone that finds it's useful *shrug* Seems opportunistic and largely irrelevant.

This took us over 2 years of work, involved two dozen active companies/specialists in the field. Not just disk mastering engineers, but also the companies who build components of cutting systems and reproduction facilities. The CUT edition was specifically build to meet their needs, and is in use in pro disc production since a while! This "insider knowledge" went into the REF edition, specifically made for ppl not operating their own lathe, to help them make better decisions early in the process.

This was a hell lot of work, and it's more 3D than any plugin you've seen so far. :D

The learning curve is steep, but the educational and professional value is substantial. This product has something for everybody, be it for professional uses, creativity, education or leisure. Think flight simulator.

The demo is free and not time limited. Only recall is locked.

Ok then. The market will reveal all. Best of luck. This seems like the wrong forum for this product... this is "effects"...

Well, technically it's an effect plugin. It adds noise, crackle, analog warmth.

Speaking about the "market" the only competitor went bankrupt this summer (search "Rebeat Innovation").

See it as a hilariously over engineered lofi plugin.

Seriously, you get a set of precise filters, unique geometrically aware dynamics processors (CUT only), the most faithful simulator of vinyl sound you can get, including access to all sorts of nerdy defects. You can literally produce digital test cuts with it, experiment how your music would sound and look on disk.

Of course this is an effect, with 2 ins, 2 outs. Just a bit more complex than usual. But contrary to the next dozen pultec emulations, this one addresses real world issues.

Very interesting and quite unexpected.

From what I've read, I have a sense that this will be something quite special. As I've never considered preparing anything for cutting plates and am not a mastering engineer, this could be quite educational for me as a mix engineer. I've learned about the theory but have zero experience with the process.

Thank you, Fabien and TDL!

My head doth spineth somewhat with the concept, but I think I may graspeth it a little more the more I pondereth.

One thing is sure that if it is of the same quality as the rest of TDRs products, whatever it is it will be done very very well, and be another excellent plugin albeit in a niche area.

Not really for me, unless it is, and I'll likely not buy it, unless I do.

Congrats, and good luck with it, I hope it pulls the skin off your mums custard. :tu:

It sounds like you're not a vinyl professional and probably should not have so vague but negative many posts in this thread about a plugin that's PROBABLY JUST NOT FOR YOU that you didn't even try.

I imagine you'll keep posting random negative conjecture though. Feel free to prove me wrong.
