Ah, didn't know one can crossgrade things from 8dio - I have all the voices, would be nice to have them in Soundpaint too...
Will investigate.

The totally stalled development of Kontakt ("Version 7" must be a joke, right? That GUI is horrible) also let me lose interest in samplers, UVI is just as bad so Soundpaint indeed is a fresh approach that has some interesting twists, although for my own (simple) stuff I mostly use either Bitwigs internal sampler or ANA2's new multisample capabilities. Have to give the editor in Soundpaint a try...

Tom

I couldn't agree more Kontakt 7 was a joke- 6 was also a very poor update, I don't think they will ever invest in rewriting the core code, its provably easier to start again (like Soundpaint!)

Soundpaint is very new, it definitely has a few rough edges and a few missing features ..but it is already far more modern and interesting than Kontakt, I am not buying anything that comes out in the Kontact format anymore, so hopefully more people will start supporting Soundpaint.
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

I received an email with a 50% off crossgrade code. This was for the strings only. I have the others so I'll expect a brass and woodwinds code soon. The new format adds quite a bit I feel.

Thanks, I found the page about the available crossgrades on their website:
https://8dioproductions.zendesk.com/hc/ ... grade-List
I opted out of their emails so I guess I'll have to contact their support if I want to take the offer.

Nice :-)

I'm liking their "Modern PR String" elec guitar. These guys really have something going with Soundpaint IMO. Not just the engine, which is great, but some great instruments at very affordable prices. Smart marketers.

I can recommend J8X as well https://soundpaint.com/products/j8x-uds

I'm still rather mixed about Soundpaint.
I bought the soprano sax and the flute and the playing experience is so-so with an EWI USB, doesn't come close to SWAM instruments or Respiro. That Legato he rambles on about in the videos is super awkward with a wind controller, feels like walking through mud if you don't raise the speed a lot - it doesn't react to how or what you play.

One can clearly see that the Soundpaint makers and Mr. Troels only ever consider people with a keyboard and a modwheel. Some things seem hardcoded to that workflow, don't show up in the mod-matrix and aren't too usable for any other setup.

Same with MPE: There simply isn't any support for it.

My GF has a Touche - the only way to use it was to make it send on CC 1 (her E-Piano doesn't have a mod wheel).
So yeah, if you have exactly the same setup as Mr. Troels, it's great (the flute sounds lovely played via keyboard and mod wheel, the soprano sax feels broken somehow).

So Caveat Emptor - make sure it fits your playing style before you go on a shopping spree ;-)
As much as I enjoy his enthusiasm, it may not extend to you.

Cheers,

Tom

To be fair Soundpaints legato was designed to be 'played on a normal keyboard'. Legato mode is brand new, still in beta...but there is much more to Sounpaint than just the legato mode. Of course there is room for improvement in many areas (I have a few feature requests in myself!) but it's hard to complain too much when the engine (and those great fx) are free and the instruments are relatively inexpensive (certainty compared to SWAM!)

Sure, my point was that - other than one of the previous posters - I wouldn't recommend soundpaint for anything else than keyboard + mod wheel, Troels is a one-track mind in that regard it seems, I wouldn't create a new engine these days without alternative controllers in mind.
But sure, you are right, the price is good and if it fit's your workflow, it may be great.
For me it's not really.

If you reading this have, just like me, not bought anything from Soundpaint we can benefit eachother by both being first-time buyers. I use your link and you use my link. That way we both get $30! :tu:
I'll wait a few days for a PM, if no one contacts me I'll just use some link and settle with $15 off (I need to start messing with those saxophones! ;)) :tu:

Roadmap for 2023

2023 marks an even more ambitious year and here is what you can expect:

First of all we will continue to expand upon our H.A.L Technology with both orchestral Strings, Brass, Choirs, Winds, Guitars, etc. The next iterations of H.A.L are already in development, with the same emphasis on improving the emotional realism and effortless expression of the instruments.

Secondly we will be expanding upon the Soundpaint Parts and Racks. Users will be able to load more Parts, control microphones and assign keyswitches for the parts (yes, keyswitches are indeed coming). This is particularly for orchestral templates, so users can quickly build complex articulation systems or ensembles and control them with ease

Thirdly we will be releasing our Advanced Sample Editor (ASE). ASE is a powerful editing tool for developers and power users. It offers the ability to create complex instruments with both velocity morphing, morph shading, and legato abilities. The tool is designed around automating all editing tasks, so users can build their instruments quicker and without all the hurdles that traditional sample editors tend to create.

And then finally … 2023 marks the year where we will release our first true next-generation orchestral instruments. I have been dreaming about this moment for over a decade, but it is only now that we have the technologies necessary to facilitate these instruments.
