looking for 60's/70's drum sounds

How to make that sound...

To be specific, I've been listening to a lot of sixties and seventies TV themes (FAB!) and what I'm after are drum sounds or kits or what have you of that kind. Drum machines can't really do this. I dont' know where to look. Even sampling would be difficult (I don't have the source material to work with) because of other sounds as well. Any suggestions? Thanks

when you say "fab!" are you saying old tv themes are fabulous, or are you talking barry gray and his themes for various gerry anderson shows?

WR has already mentioned pasttofuture samples (https://pasttofuturesamples.gumroad.com). Loads of stuff on there (including some nice freebies), but you'll need Kontakt, or map the files yourself for whatever sampler you use.

NI 60s and 70s drummer are reliable and versatile for this kind of stuff, and Kontakt player compatible, and can often be picked up cheap in the marketplace.

Addictive Drums Black Oyster and Blue Oyster are among my favourite kits and the included effects make them hugely versatile.

Loads more stuff out there as well. I will pop back when I think of some more...

That sounds great. Unforrunately the website is a mess and there seems to be no way to buy or download anything. Clicking on 'add to cart' does nothing.
Try it with firefox...It's a mess for me too with anything else!

I got it to work. I bought the Liverpool Four drums. The tea towel set is nice, but a bit too laid back for what I want. Definitely some nice kits there.

For something with a bit more bite (and free!) try the Motown Vol 6;

I'm inspired by a lot of the tv work from the seventies and early eighties. Very interesting compositions

Paddy Kinglsand's excellent synth stuff for late seventies Dr Who is superb.
