These fixes are all very nice, but the core upgrade price is still way too steep for what's on offer.

I've been with Pro since version 1, and have always been happy paying for valuable upgrades packed with must-have features.

By comparison, V6 is only nice-to-have with relatively trivial new stuff unlike, say, the upgrades for parts & patterns, or simplified automation etc.

Sorry, but I'll wait until better value for £129 turns up :tu:

.....

As an aside rant, I don't think Presonus care much what I do as their main interest is acquiring new Sphere users.

This is their Big Plan.

But I don't want to be on the drip to Presonus for the rest of my life.

Making music is a massive part of my life, and I don't want to rent it :x

I want to own it, same as I own my music. Mine!

I see the high V6 upgrade price as a deliberate ploy to make me switch to Sphere.

I'm being penalised for not renting.

Any thoughts on this boardroom conspiracy theory

On the other hand, this is just a minor update. If new things happen the way they did between 4.x (last version) and 5.5, I guess I will be very happy for the next year or so.

But that's just me.

I am on V6 by the way. I came back to S1 as for me it's one of the most polished experiences at a reasonable CPU hit. I'm just getting where I want to go to faster.

Yay. Love Studio One

Yeah the upgrade price for lack of features and lack of Sale sucks , yes they are pushing Sphere . But they are alienating a userbase that could flip to Ableton , Bitwig , Reaper , etc etc there are other good DAWs out there . I'm still in 5 point something . Maybe if they want to make a buck they could do more stuff like Atom and make it more like Machine or something more premium, heck Ableton did it with push .

Theyve already alienated me. Ive bought all of the updates since v2 (immediately at full price in most instances) but v 5 will be my last. The previously nice attitude of the company has changed significantly in the last year or so. (not just the update sales part, but also other interactions)

Theyve even made great efforts to hide the perpetual updates from their website. (even the shop link is gone).

Ive very nicely ported everything back to Cubase. v12 is excellent.

I am not exactly sure what some folks are going on about regarding the update price - it has been $149.00 for me since I can remember (maybe v2 back in 2012ish?) - that in itself is a stunning development that this price would hold steady for 10 years.

The other key piece of logic that ALL Studio one users should come to grips with is that EVERY major version of S1 has always appeared to be "light" on the hot new stuff out of the gate (like 6.0.0.0) for example. Then of course - there are scores of users complaining about a lack of "new and shiny" and so on - espeically in the early days of a majot version release - like right now for example.

But as one of those who sees these major S1 releases for what they really are - a new start point (home base/platform etc) to build upon - every time Presonus seems to deliver that as long as you have the patience to wait.

Presonus NEVER shows its full hand for what will actually be delivered in a specific version right out of the gate. They are always building out new features and enhancements and seemingly "turn these on" with each successive release.

I remember users freaking out back in the 3.5/3.6 days and again with 4.5 and 5.5 where all these cool new features suddenly appeared "for free" and they could not believe how cool it was.

The same will occur with v6.x down the road. It takes time to polish new features and get them ready for real world action and I am actually glad they take their time. Sure it would be awesome to get 67 new features on Day 1 - but I think that would probably cause more bugs, issues and hassle then it would be worth.

I like their measured approach and trust that 6.x and 6.x.x will deliver more value.

And on the Sphere front - I do not understand the nasty vibe there either. No one is forcing anyone to buy anything and Presonus has been clear on the facts that you can either buy the upgrade and "own" it or go subscription and enjoy. I did not have any issues finding my upgrade link or anything untoward when v6 was released.

Full disclosure - I am fully in the "own it" camp - but if/when that day arrives that subscription becomes the only way to get S1 - then and only then would I worry about it.

Cheers

Studio One is great! This update is great also.

I think, problem not in S1 or presonus, but in your expectations. If you will expect nothing significant from the next update, you will be pleasantly surprised how many new great feature it has.

Anybody here have issues with MX master mouse and studio one on mac?

Pretty much agree with everything here. Everyone has the same exact complaints about S1 when a .0 version drops. That it doesn't have features they want, that the upgrade isn't worth it etc. Yet during the lifetime of that major version you pretty major updates. Compare 5.0 to even 5.1 or 5.2. Compare 4.0 to 4.5. All this in between versions are free and they usually add major functionality. S1 3.x got the hybrid audio engine in 3.5. Any other major DAW would have made that a full paid update.

If S1 is not worth it to you now, don't upgrade. Wait until .2 or .5. That's were we'll see the major stuff come in.

I'd v much like you to be right here.

I have no big ambitions to jump ship.

If a point upgrade adds up to the £129 asking value, then I'll pay.

But secretly I feel like I'm being blackmailed into the Sphere direction.

Bah. I'm getting paranoid :D :D :D

I think that's on you to figure out.

Me - I would rather just keep creating and channel any worries into my music rather than the tools I use.

I don't see why you feel like they are blackmailing you to join Sphere. The upgrade price for Studio One has been the same since whenever I first bought it (back in version 2). To me $129 for two years of features seems fine. Compare with Ableton ($289 or so to go from Suite 10 to Suite 11) or Bitwig ($129 for one year of upgrades). I buy S1 from Sweetwater never directly from them so I never even had to interact with their Sphere site to buy S1. If that changes then it will be a big deal for me (Ableton no longer sells on Sweetwater for example and that does worry me).

I was late to the party. After gambling around with the Prime v4 I got one day a mail from Presonus with an offer I couldn’t refuse: Upgrade to Pro4 for ~200 bucks.

My update to v5 did cost me around $80 +tax. Can’t remember if Black Friday or End-of-Year sale.

And now I’m waiting for something similar for v6.
