It's your wording that confused me. I thought you were talking about Reason as a MIDI plugin (which works fine)machinesworking wrote: Sat Dec 17, 2022 6:08 pm Again, with Reason Rack as a VSTi I can load Redrum, make a sequence, take one slot say the kick, send it out of Reason Rack and trigger any VSTi in Digital Performer. This works the same in any host that can host VSTi’s, Live, Bitwig etc.
To do the same thing with the AUi version of Reason Rack you would have to duplicate the setup in another rack, not the same at all, setting up Redrum as a MIDI out source means it’s only a MIDI out source.![]()

Yeah it's not an easy difference to explain unless you've used multiple DAWs and had reason to use MIDI out from a drum machine plug in like Atlas, ReDrum etc. then the difference between how AU in Logic/Unify works VS it not working at all for MIDI out in Live, DP11 etc. VSTi Reason Rack always works, but no Rosetta VSTi, only Bitwig can wrap VSTi's on Apple Silicon.sQeetz wrote: Sat Dec 17, 2022 6:28 pmIt's your wording that confused me. Well, it obviously will not happen this year, so judging by the Reason updates, Apple M support could arrive sometime near the end of 2024 or first quarter of 2025

Very few DAWs support 3rd party VST MIDI FX, anyway, so singling out Ableton Live just to throw in that jab seems a bit ridiculous.sQeetz wrote: Sat Dec 17, 2022 11:36 amYou can't use Reason as a MIDI FX plugin in Live, since Live doesn't support MIDI plugins at all.... (unfortunately)... they prefer to peddle their sucky Max stuffCalagan wrote: Sat Dec 17, 2022 11:34 am Midi possibilities are not the same in Live : to my knowledge you can’t do all that (midi out + instrument + FX) in the same track...
But instrument and FX together work fine
Max is a development environment for Virtual Instruments, Effects and MIDI Processors - like REAKTOR. It is not a plug-in. It is a platform upon which plugins are built - like the Reason Rack SDK is a platform upon which rack extensions are built.
So, it really has nothing to do with this.
Again, I can probably count on one hand the number of DAWs that support VST MIDI FX. Live not supporting it is the norm, not an outlier. Not even Reason has decent support for this, yet its users are acting like other DAWs have to bend over backwards to implement something to support whatever wacky workflow they have thought up using the rack.
Seems a bit ironic, don't you think?

Nah.... why?
I use Live and Push 2. That's my setup.... I understand Max and its capabilities.
Would love to be able to use Reason MIDI FX stuff with it or Scaler even (they work in Logic).

I would love to be able to use Scaler 2 as a proper MIDI Processing FX in Reason, even (it works in Logic).sQeetz wrote: Sat Jan 07, 2023 12:38 amNah.... why?

Is the irony more clear, now?
