Hi, new to KVR. It is my understanding that to be able to post in the other forums I have to post 5 times?

Not all the other forums. Sell & Buy for sure ("NOTE: Accounts that have been registered for fewer than 14 days OR with fewer than 5 posts and registered for fewer than 6 months will not be able to post a new topic or reply"). Hyde Park Corner might be more than five, Off Topic in general I'm not sure. I think for all the others, you should be good to go.
