How many bars for the hook?

Hey, im a producer and i always used to make beats at arround 140-160bpm. When I arranged them i always had a hook being 16 bars. Recently i kinda changed my beats and now they are at 100 - 120 bpm. Now i dont know anymore if I should make the hook 8 bars or 16 bars long. I feel like 8 bars is a bit too short but 16 bars is just too long. I just wanted to ask how you guys do it, thanks for your answers. (Please excuse my bad english)

Without really answering your question, I’d say to maybe listen to a lot of music at the tempo range you are making now and get comfortable hearing it. Maybe you’re finding 16 too long, or 8 too short, as you are used to listening to, and making, faster music. Analyze what others are doing and get really comfortable with it. For most modern music it’ll probably be one or the other. You don’t often hear 10, 12 or 14 bars. Ultimately, and most importantly IMO, do what’s right for the song.

there's no right answer. when i'm writing i go off the feel of a song. sometimes 8 bars feels right, sometimes 16 bars feels right. when going with 16 bars though, it's important to add in additional elements at least after 8 bars to keep the hook interesting and not feel so long.

id do the hook at 5 bars and use it intermittently!
or rather, try writing a hook that works, dont worry about how long or short it is.
