Just change the genre of your song until it fits the sound.
Then it's "good."

Ive spent less than 500 euros on plugins in the 20 years Ive been involved with computer music. I dont see plugins as a sensible investment, many of the plugins I have bought have been obsolete, unsupported and discontinued for over a decade. I also think many plugins are simply overpriced, and freeware is better, equal or 97% as capable and doesnt come with ilok and such garbage.

Agreed - never seen this site, but it's pretty crazy... some of those sub-genres are so randomwhassup wrote: Tue Dec 13, 2022 9:29 amBam!!! What an awesome website! Thanx so much!Michael L wrote: Thu Nov 24, 2022 7:32 am There is no "bad sound."

I probably lost track, but I kind of stopped buying new stuff a few years ago because I more-or-less have enough already. Something on the order of $1500. I don't regret it though because it mostly supports companies I appreciate like Impact Soundworks (PEARL Concert Grand and Shreddage are standout libraries here) and u-he (Zebra2 for sure).

too much probably... around 800 - 1000 I guess which was completely useless and stupid right off the start.
Starting with Stock Plugins from your daw and stick on them for a while is definitely not a bad advice

Hi, this is my very first appearance on KVR...
I have to admit that back when I started doing audio as a hobby, every single thing installed on my PC was torren searched.
It wasn't until my second year that I could make money out of it and few time later I was buying Reaper (best investment imo). Then I found myself buying my most used plugins (only when on sale tho).
Now I'm at less than 500 and struggling everytime I see a "bargain". This is getting ridiculous as my incomes don't justify the spends.

The way you began notwithstanding, I think you found your way around to the right approach. Don't go gear-blind like I did. I did happen to have the spare income at the time, and let me tell you, I would rather that I hadn't had it. One, I don't have the spare income now but my "collecting" habit was still ingrained in me. Two, I stopped making music for a LONG time because I kept putting it off until that next paycheck would finance that thing I needed. Skill is built in the problem-solving moments where you don't quite have what you need but you make it work anyway.Fregues wrote: Fri Dec 30, 2022 12:03 am Hi, this is my very first appearance on KVR...

Opsix $50
Wavestate $50
Valhalla delay $50
Valhalla Vintage verb $50
I had a mad impulse buy for STA enhancer but the novelty of it wore off very quickly after using it properly...poor purchase. I like the effect but it's too extreme and can't be dialled back.
Unfortunately I spent an absolute shitload more than that on hw. Not least on the Wavestate & Opsix (dunno WTF possessed me to buy the sw

Agree with all those saying to stick with stock plugins as long as possible... I've been using entirely stock plugins/samples in Logic for the last year or so, and I've found it much more empowering to learn to work with what I have than to just throw piles of money at the problem. It is tempting at times, but in the end it usually isn't the software that's holding me back. (It helps too that Logic's stock plugins and synths are really quite good.)
That said, after a year+ of yearning for a true upright piano sound, I finally caved and bought Pianoteq recently -- it is like heaven!!
