Well my pc lives offline, and I only go online with it occasionally for the specific purposes of updates and new installs. So their stuff must work without phoning home cos mine do it constantly. I can go months without going online and they've always been fine.
I'm just reporting what I see here. When I load Pigments and SQ80V (didn't try any of the FX plugins) the Arturia Software Center Agent.exe loads and connects to the internet.

The Agent.exe also remains as a running process (Win 10) as long as the plugin(s) are running then shuts down when they're closed (again based on what I'm seeing here).

I'll actually credit Arturia for not having the agent run at startup and run constantly like iLok and CodeMeter do.

All my computers are always connected including my studio system so I can't say what does or doesn't happen if we're offline but if you say they work offline then they do.

For the record this is what I was responding to:
gentleclockdivider wrote: Wed Dec 21, 2022 1:11 pm Does anyone know , once the plugin is installed can I uninstall the arturia software or does it phone home ?
I obvioulsy want to keep the plugin installed but really dislike having another software centre installed .
So based on what I'm seeing here I'd say yes it phones home and I have the strong feeling that the ASC needs to be installed for the plugin to function.

According to the activity at the Firewall here the agent.exe is phoning home.

Arturia's plugins are some of the slowest to load of any that I own so maybe it's the "open the agent.exe/phone home" process that's causing the delay.

Looks like the Agent also runs as a background process (on Win 10):

In my experience Arturia plugins do phone home and in fact activate the "Arturia Software Center Agent.exe" when loaded.

You can check the activity at your Firewall:

(This is after loading Pigments)

Now I don't know if the plugins will still load and function if the phone home is unsuccessful but I doubt they'll function without the ASC being installed.

You can activate offline, so it doesn't require you to be online to keep it activated.

I run very often Arturia plugins when I'm on stage, so definitely offline, and everything runs smooth.
Never had an authorisation issue with them, using the ASC app on a mac...

Post

Yeah it works offline. Only seems to automatically make a new folder in your downloads called "Arturia" for some reason.

Probably only way to know for sure if you can run their stuff without the ASC installed would be to ask Arturia directly.

The question, what happens next Christmas? :) Another freebie, then you have to install ASC again, just to uninstall it again when you installed and activated the plugin?

Also, you miss out on any update. And, Arturia's plugins get updated pretty regularly.

From the software managers I used, ASC is by far not the worst.

i think more:
2016: mini filter
2019: rev plate
2020: chorus jun-6
2021: mello-fi
and now 2022: ms20 filter

Post

They also gave a special version of the Mini V away, years ago (I think it was monophonic). I don't recall if that was for Christmas though. Might have been another occasion.

NI gives away old plugins. Arturia gives away new plugins.
No Siree bob.. maybe last year but certainly when NI use to give away their own fx and synths they were mostly brand new synths and fx..(not talking about Kontakt instruments)
But even their free reaktor xmas give aways were mostly new stuff.
Maybe sometimes they give away the junior version and later in the next year sold the bigger version of them, but those were new stuff.
rsp
it doesn't matter, they both released some fun stuff for free at xmas, and as much as i appreciate them, i know they're enticement to buy in this case, the full ms20 for those of us who haven't already.

it's called business.

people should stop being so tribal about companies

In another thread, NI was criticized for only offerng u-he's plugins to promote NKS... Jeez. Really getting sick and tired of KVR and its dumb attitude. As if any company wouldn't want to bring food to the table.

Seriously, vurt, always like to read your balanced and friendly posts. You're one of the guys who keep this place sane. ;)

Runs here every time on two systems. It's not like we have different versions of the software.

This system from two minutes ago:

For the record I don't have anything against the ASC, I'm just pointing out what happens here.
