I really wanted to like F'em, since it seems to have a lot in common with Sytrus and FM8, which I am very comfortable in, but it was just too buggy on my machine. I went back and forth with support a few times but it seemed like they just gave up on me.

Like a few others here, I've also really taken a shine to Bitwig's Phase-4. It's got some nice depth to it without feeling overwhelming. I also really like Sugar Byte's Aparillo for its unique approach.

+1

Phase-4 is an excellent synth...

Phase 4 really is great!

For FM I'm surprised Aparillo doesn't seem to get many mentions.

edit: just noticed cake builder mentioned it two posts up :hihi:

And not a 2022 thing, but Reaktor has a bunch of great little FM ensembles.

Always been a noob with FM. So besides Sytrus which I got with FL Studio when I began making music a looong time ago and Dexed which is free, the only other I've bought was very recently and qualifies as a 2022 synth - AIR's OPx-4. Easy for beginners like myself, and sounds great to me, using it a lot.

This video demo shows it off better than the audio on the website.

And even among spreadsheets its hard to discern. It's a visually confusing monstrosity!
The big problem I have with Tranzistow is not how it sounds. It sounds really, really good! It's not the GUI, although saying that it could be better is an understatement. It's the attitude of the developer that turns me off.

Tranzistow has been released as a "mandatory donationware" with donations ranging from 50 EUR up to 200 EUR or more depending on how much Tranzistow will be worth to you, on how many computers do you intend to use it, etc. Only PayPal donations to are accepted. PayPal fees have to be paid by yourself. Please, keep in mind this still isn't a commercial project so no support, no assistance in getting it to work, no troubleshooting of your system, etc. Of course, I will make enhancements and fix bugs when I encounter them simply because this is the synthesizer I am using on a daily basis and will be using in my music for years to come. This also means that I can actively test it on Windows XP, 7 and 10 with various ASIO drivers for audio interfaces I have (MOTU 896mk3 Hybrid, E-MU 1820M, 1212M and 0404, Focusrite Scarlett, ESi 1010e, ASIO4All). Donations cannot be returned, so think twice before donating, check if it works for you in the current state, decide how much it is important to you and then donate the appropriate amount. Also, donations are for what I've done, not for what I should do. So, please, don't have any expectations about my future work on the base of the donation. And don't insult yourself, me and Tranzistow with donations below 50 EUR! If you think this synthesizer isn't worth at least 50 EUR then it isn't for you, sorry.

Please note that Tranzistow cannot be used without donation/registration anymore, at least - not used properly because there will be various sound artifacts and occasional missing notes until donated/registered. Users who donated have to send me their full name and PayPal address in order to obtain an ID and only after putting this ID into Tranzistow.ini those artifacts will go away.

"Mandatory Donationware"

Let's at least be honest and call it what it is.....

This synth is for sale for 50 EUR (but I'll take as much as you're willing to give me). But be warned. The synth is being sold AS IS and without support. I won't help you or troubleshoot anything with you. Once you pay me, I'll send you the unlock code to deactivate demo mode. Don't expect anything more. Good luck!

Instills trust, don't it? :hihi:

...Oh, and it only supports VST2.
Not everything is carved in stone
If you go the dedicated tranzistow thread on gearslutz you'll notice that the developer is verry responsive and even adds features when he sees the added value of it .
It makes sense that he doesn't want to spend his time debugging stuff why it shouldn't work on certain systems , that's one of the reasons why it's not sold as commercial software .
BUg reports will be fixed because after all it's the only synth that the develoepr uses so fixing them seems logical .
Taken into account what tranzistow is capable off , 50 euro is really not that much otr create 200 presets and you get it .
It can literally be the only synth you'll ever need .
Your milage may vary ,but I prefer it this way and a direct communication line( altough limited ) with the developer instead of jumping through hoops and support ticket shenanigans just to report a bug .
Eyeball exchanging
Soul calibrating ..frequencies

But it is commercial software... but with some BS about calling it a 'donation'. In the US that would be illegal. If you call it a donation, it must be optional, not mandatory.

It's a dishonest way to avoid the responsibility of selling a commercial product. I wonder if it is illegal in his country?

One that has recently stuck out to me is Waves Flow Motion. Super easy to use and it sounds great.

Well at least I didn't change my mind when a new shiny toy turns up

I prefer use soft synths that make the task a positive experience and there is a tactile element to it all....

It's a bit like having a beautiful looking guitar that is real dog to play and one that feels like an old friend that makes the passing of time a lot more pleasant 🌞

I wasn't questioning your reasons for liking that VST. I was just pointing out that you'd already posted the same one a week or so before.

Seemed like you'd forgotten or something, lol... sorry for the confusion :)
