It makes sense that he doesn't want to spend his time debugging stuff why it shouldn't work on certain systems , that's one of the reasons why it's not sold as commercial software .
But it is commercial software... but with some BS about calling it a 'donation'. In the US that would be illegal. If you call it a donation, it must be optional, not mandatory.

It's a dishonest way to avoid the responsibility of selling a commercial product. I wonder if it is illegal in his country?
Your argument is pretty valid. This "mandatory donation" stuff is definitely (semi-)commercial and the website fulfills in no way any legal requirements in most countries, as impressum, privacy protection declarations, etc., etc. instead the domain is hidden behind a privacy protection organisation. Clear violation against all competition rules. In Europe this guy also would be in the risk to receive an expensive legal warning. Is he paying taxes at all properly for his enterprise?

I hope for this guy, that he never faces any problems, because it's clear with common sense, that it's just a bigger hobby. But pretty thin ice though.

Uhe Bazille?

Personally I’ve never committed to investing the time to learn it, but it sounds really good and the people who do invest the time seem to swear by it

When I demo’d it I felt like I had stumbled into a scientist’s laboratory  not a clue what was going on! But I maintain it sounded great

I say scientists lab but probably more in line with an old-style telephone exchange!

One day Bazille, one day…..

I still don't really "know" how to make a sound with it, I just patch things together and see what comes out at the end
Always Read the Manual!

At this point, I have an accurate idea of what it will sound like when I do some new patching... I've done a lot of sound design with Bazille!

How long/how many hours did you have to spend with it to get to grips with it? Was there a lot of diving into the manual?

I don't know... the manual is helpful, but I mostly learned by trial and error. The cookbook is available these days and that's very useful. I've been using Bazille for years now. Competence kinda crept up on me.

It helps to have some familiarity with modular utilities. For example, when I first started using Bazille, I had not yet gotten into modular. I had no idea what lag generators were, or the rectifiers. The multiples were a big 'huh?'.

I kept going cause of the sound quality!

I hear that, it’s the way it sounds and the potential for all manner of weird tones and textures that lures me in!
Maybe I’ll take the demo for another spin. Thanks 👍

In my top 3. Crazy good.

BTW, there is a cool soundset + book by the awesome Howard Scarr about programming that thing.

In U-HE's own words:

The Bazille Cookbook

A 280+ patch soundset plus the ultimate compendium of Bazille knowledge, all cooked up and served hot by our very own Howard Scarr. Apart from describing techniques used in each and every patch in the soundset, the 118-page book (PDF) is also stuffed with interesting tips and little experiments. This combination of soundset and book should keep Bazille fans engaged and exploring for a very long time.

Hey guys, let me tell you about this little synth called OPS7 which sounds awesome unlike the crappy F'em which sounds cheap. I feel like F'em is doing some weird, bad-sounding filtering of the high end probably to reduce aliasing and whatever it is they're doing makes the high end sound cheap and garbagey. OPS7 was made by someone who has ears or by someone who copied a design of someone else who has ears.

Bazille sounds good but also doesn't belong in a 2022 specific thread, like Tranzistow which sounds like a budget 90s PC sci fi game.

I'll probably re-mention how bad F'em sounds later. I might throw Tranzistow in there too since it keeps getting mentioned for no reason and doesn't sound particularly great (if you disagree please link me to all these awesome Tranzistow audio demos that definitely exist in real life).

My reading of the original post was that the OP was looking for any good FM synth currently available in 2022... not specifically one newly released in 2022.

In that case Bazille qualifies! (Plus it's the best freakin synth ever!!)
