Fender Studio Pro Studio One Artist

Maybe get all the Studio One 5 users to blow up Presonus email and support email about the lack of a 25% off for the 6 pro upgrade and they'll get the hint ?

Post

That’s why I’m still on 5 currently.

Heh, yeah they do seem to be pretty interested in getting folks in on the subscription. I sent them a rather ridiculous and spiteful email about the sub being available prior to the demo, of course they ignored it. I'm still on ver 4 actually and pretty much on the verge of just abandoning Studio One all together now that fender is running the show.

This is what I did.

Studio One is still far and away the best DAW on the market, regardless of who the parent company is.

I'll just wait until they have a sale on the upgrade. Even if that never happens, worst case scenario is I pay $40 more than I otherwise would like to. Bottom line is you couldn't pay me to switch, so I'm not gonna sweat a few extra bucks.

Yeah, they make their decisions, you make yours and everyone lives with the consequences. Hardly the end of the world.

The only hint they'd likely get from such an action is that they are better off without a bunch of whining, entitled pricks who'll never pay a fair price as customers.

What a dumbass thing to say. You have absolutely no idea how much influence Fender has had on anything Presonus has done since the acquisition. None of us do. For all we know, Fender might be telling them they are asking too much for the upgrade and advising them to lower the price.

More to the point, you're still on v4, so you obviously had no interest in the v5 upgrade, either, which was available years before the Fender acquisition. So what's so much worse about the situation now, after working on an obsolete version for the past 2 or 3 years, that you will now stop using it altogether? If it worked well enough yesterday, it will work just as well tomorrow. It makes no f**king sense at all.

I suppose it's true that I didn't need to bring Fender into it or that I was using S1 much in the first place. I tried 5 but didn't want to pay basically, same with 6. Still, it seems like they are in the least trying to steer folks towards paying them continuously. I don't recall them limiting holiday sales to the subscription in the past. It will be interesting to see how far they are willing to take that in the future as well as to what influence Fender decides to exert over the PreSonus subsidiary. I don't think it can be said that they are famous for having the customers best interest in mind too often.

Did Presonus ever have upgrade sales half a year after a new major version? I don't remember TBH.

They did! Just re-checked my account. Studio One 5 was released on 7.7.2020 and I bought my Update to Pro on 23.12. same year for 50%.

Alright. Well, guess they changed their policy a bit then, as I also remember that they did 50% off sales, and now they only do 25% off sales.

I'm still on version 4.6 as well, and don't plan to upgrade to 6. Maybe I'll ditch Studio One at some point altogether. I have my eye on Cakewalk for a while now, there's just some small things which always hindered me to use it as my main DAW. I just don't like the 1 or 2 paid upgrades a year which Cubase and Studio One do, which, for me, don't bring anything fundamentally new to the table, but bloat the software with features which have to justify the upgrade expense. For me, a DAW doesn't need to have a new paid major version more than once every 5 years. Anything else is just a better subscription scheme. Which you don't have to do, of course, but, still.

Looked at the sale. Was maybe thinking of upgrading Artist 5 to Artist 6, but there's nothing much in artist, all the exciting new features are in Pro. Obvs they're going to do that, but anyway...
I'll save my money anyway

Mac guy here - so no option for me. But for longterm compatibility (if I‘ll switch to Windows PC one day) I decided against Logic Pro and in favor of Studio One (4) back in 2019. Maybe that was a mistake, because I don‘t see myself ditching Macs anytime soon.

If I remember correct: Reason Studios 12 also had something like this with their upgrade pricing. Nothing for old loyal customers, only discounts for new customers and for the subscription model. But pretty soon the discount did come for the old customers also. Maybe one reason was people were commenting it publicly they did not appreciate Reason Studios forgetting old customers.

If Studio One had an upgrade (or rather, new major version) policy like Logic Pro (I think the paid versions are good for a couple of years), I wouldn't complain.

I'm thinking of permanently switching to Artist because of the upgrade price of Pro. It's just not worth it to me.
Might do the same - I don't think there is much in Pro I would really miss but the upgrade price is a bad joke
You would think owning pro gives you the artist license already but no and I'm not paying another £80 just to get it
