Instead Logic keeps things in the cache to pretend to be 'faster' - a really strange and outdated design decision which can sometimes raise a behavior that confuses customers and developers. The problematic caching affects all AudioUnit plugins running in Logic.
That being said, for some reason Icarus seems to want to crash Logic as the time out screen appears, which isn't a problem with the Nemesis demo or any other plugin that I've used. Icarus also seems to have an involuntary browser-open behaviour linking to the shop, which is perhaps what's causing the crash. As a potential customer I'm on the fence as to whether it's worth the trouble, particularly as 15 minutes is actually a rather short time for someone unfamiliar with the interface. For someone who already has full knowledge of the synth 15 minutes is enough to wire up some moderately involved patches and assess the character of filters etc., but if one is just getting acquainted with the layout and having to reboot computers, that's a bit of a headache and it's hard to get to the actual important stuff: it turns it into a military exercise.
Standalone is an option, but only for those hooked up to a midi keyboard, which I'm currently not.

Also, I'm sure that the Nemesis demo is reset in Logic just by removing and re-adding the plugin, no problem at all. Or at least that was the case a few weeks ago when I was trying it.

That's a yes, from the manual:

"For qtuick access to your own wavetables you can add your own custom fles to the
factory content of Icarus. When Icarus is loaded all wavetables within the
Icarus_wavetables directory are scanned and displayed within the oscillators.
The Icarus wavetables are stored as wav fles within the Icarus_wavetables directory. On PC
this directory can be found within your vstplugins directory. On Mac it is within
Library/Audio/Plug-ins."

Hi Markus,

I added some third party wavetables into the Icarus_wavetables directory, however when I access them from within Icarus, they are all jumbled up i.e. they are not listed in alphabetical order, as expected. This makes navigation quite clunky, is there any way to fix this?

If it's helpful to troubleshooting purposes, I'm running Bitwig 4.4.3 on a Big Sur M1 Air.

Thanks!

For 3rd party stuff you could try this:

1) Delete them again from the Icarus_wavetables directory
2) Use the Apple Finder and go to the directory of the files. Then sort them in an alphabetical order
3) Copy and paste the files to Icarus_wavetables

Thanks, I'll give that a go!

This didn't work sadly. I didn't notice before but the factory tables are not sorted alphabetical/numerically either. Is this normal?

Every so often I feel inclined to give the demo another try. Yesterday it timed out instantly and today it timed out after about 2 minutes, and automatically opened a browser window for the shop as though it's intentionally taunting me. I got as far as resizing the UI, finding the detune settings and changing filter type. That was it. Something is really not right.

None of our products has or had a 2 minutes demo testing time limitation.

There is also standalone that works very well for testing. When you restart it you get another 20 minutes of demo time. You can repeat this as often as you want. There is no limitation.

Mac VST2/VST3:
remove the plugin and re-insert it. Then you get 20 minutes of demo testing time. You can repeat this as often as you want. There is no limitation.

Mac AudioUnit:
If you restart the DAW you get 20 minutes of demo testing time. You can repeat this as often as you want. There is no limitation.
Make sure that you really restart the DAW and not just minimize it.
Please note that Logic does not really reload plugins when you delete and re-insert them. It keeps them in cache for some weird reason. This does affect also all(?) plugins from other developers. Logic is the only DAW that behaves this way.

PC VST2/VST3:
remove the plugin and re-insert it. Then you get 20 minutes of demo testing time. You can repeat this as often as you want. There is no limitation.

You can get around the nasty demo limitations by purchasing a full version.

Like I say, on my system the time out isn't working as you think it does, there's something in the code that isn't agreeing with either Logic, or Monterey, M1 or a combination. Restarting Logic doesn't help either, and even after rebooting the machine it's sometimes gone straight to time out or timed out after 2 minutes. I suspect it has something to do with focus for the plugin window.

You can demo Icarus as standalone... no need for Logic then.

Yeah, I know. It's not ideal, I like to A/B things. Right at this moment I suspect Icarus might be able to do something in a particular track better than the other tools I have. It would be great to drop it in and have a focussed listening test. Plus I don't have convenient access to a midi input device. I suppose I could route the midi out of Logic to the standalone; perhaps I'll do that. But I think that since I had no trouble with the Nemesis demo a code comparison would highlight some kind of bug.

You can try the demo in Reaper or any other host's demo/trial.
I have the full version of Icarus and it runs well with Logic (M1 Monterey).

It's slowly becoming my favourite synth to go because it sounds really excellent and can be the ideal general purpose synth because of its versatility in sound and low cpu usage.
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

No such thing as 'Ultimate or Perfect Synth'.
Icarus 2 has amazing 3D sound, but have some weakness points.
It seems, that every time i open my mouth to point weakness or missing functionality developers start to hate me and try to ignore that weakness or conversation about it:)
But i'm insistent, not because its imortant to me ,but because will make the synth better :)
Every user probably have some ideas, but what i'm sharing is basic tool for sound design, not just ideas.
Icarus weak points i wanna see if there is future development of this amazing synth:
1. Keytrack need mod wheel, lfo, adsr and mseg modulators attached.
2.Mix knob of glitch section need at least mod wheel and aftertouch modulators,so users to be able to control so called 'Trance Gate' effect or else from that Glitch section.
Not super important upgrade ,but very useful functionS current version of Icarus 2.5 miss.
Cheers :)

I forgot.... Do I need to pay to get a new license for it, and once I get the license, where do I put it?
