Yes there are. Yes they do. Sometimes roll them back to N minus 2.

One reason to sleep is the environmental / energy savings. Perhaps inconsequential, but sort of like turning off the lights when you're not in the room.
open terminal; type caffeinate; press enter;
no extra apps or utilities required.
close the terminal window when caffeination its no longer required.

You're just too cool for school. This is an application I use multiple times daily, so those clicks and keystrokes add up over a year. I love the terminal, but one mouse click beats three clicks plus 11 keystrokes (or two if you use a macro or your shell history, but you get my point) ... and I like to know at a glance from the menubar whether it's active or not and sometimes use the timer functions.

In this case the extra app is de minimus in exchange for the long term benefits, and we're talking decades now.

has anyone updates and has any issues?

The only issue I ran into was losing Disk Mount Imager. It required an OS reinstall to fix and everything seems to be working fine now.

Slate just announced compatibility and I think they were among the last with compatibility.

They still have a weird installer (for VSX) that I have to bypass to use. That was a problem before Ventura.
The same goes for Native Access. I’ve been having issues with their installer since before Ventura and not much has changed.

Thanks. Might just do it then :)

... but one mouse click ...
use whatever works for you, i just stumbled across it while looking for something that did exactly this.

zero mouse clicks is also possible; command+space, type t, enter, type caffeinate, enter. spotlight autocompletes terminal.app after just typing in the "t".

you can save any terminal command as a script and run that

One can do a lot of things. There are probably no end to the ways to force the computer to stay awake. You all do it your convoluted way and I'll do it my sleek elegant open source menubar app way. Figure I probably load caffeine about 300 times in a year +/-. I found a solution that works for me, because I prefer a single mouse click plus visual reminder to typing all that mess. YMMV

sorry i was paying attention to the convo.

menubar app is by far the most elegant solution and its free anyway

The only notable issue I’ve bumped into with Ventura is that it has broken the ability to make bootable external backup clones on M1/M2 Macs with either SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner. This was not an issue with Monterey.
On a number of Macs

Really? Wonder why.

I haven’t used SD since going M1. Was gonna paid upgrade as it says on their website “Version 3.7.1 supports bootable backups for….Ventura”.

Just a heads-up, I did run into a problem with Waves plugins.

My last paid WUP got me to V12. Waves would not install V12 on Ventura. I don’t want to pay again. I had do that when Apple changed the requirements for how plugin installers would work, so I uninstalled all Waves and just moved on.

Another issue:

iLok. Apparently iLok is still not supported on Ventura but supposedly Apple and iLok are working on the issue.

I ran into this problem trying launch Softube Central to look for updates but couldn’t install the iLok helper.

To be clear, this seems to relate to installing. I’ve had numerous issues now with NI, Waves and Softube (iLok) due to installing things.

The NI issues are the same on PC and Windows, relating to permissions and dependencies.
Waves are just money hungry restricting Ventura installs to newest Waves version only. It’s their right to make a paid update necessary and of course my right to move the f**k on.

Plugins already installed seem to work without issue and iLok licensing works just fine.

thanks for the hup
