Good old magnetic hard drives! They sounded much better than the solid state drives we have now…

Don't you miss those buffer underruns? Slow CPU paired with slow HD... That is digi vintage.

I have some 90s CDs that apparently had problem with tape path of DAT tape.
Some part sounds like bitcrusher fx.
I don't want to emulate it though :)

Yes that is the "you know your audio is fked and you're never going to get it back" sound. And it would happen more often than you wanted it to. And you thought buying the best tape would prevent it... pfft. Good riddiance to DAT.

B.t.w.: personally I wouldn't think of abusing the decoder-part - even a mismatch sounds funny already (i.e. just plain wrong and bad), which is probably why you don't see many emulations of it.
(So thinking about it I guess Klevgrand must have emulated both stages at once under the hood... ?)
FYI U-He Satin offer a bunch of different NR encoders & decoders, you can mix and match.

I have the Yamaha Vintage Open Deck plug in pack and was wondering how people think think this holds up compared to more recent plugins these days?

But yes, it's sometime used to recreate the lost high freq of the tape. I own Type-C and last model. They sound lovely to make 80s or 90s sound!
so its an aphex aural exciter emulation ? ....unexpected, and obviously a more sophisticated model than the one emulates by waves !
