Fircomp -WoW. What a compressor! I've been having great success with Version 1 on my masterbuss. It pulls everything together perfectly. Have been messing around with Modern Apophis by Antress and the Classic Limiter No. 6, but honestly I think Fircomp takes the cake! Anyone see any problems with using it on the masterbuss? Any recommended uses or masterbuss settings for it? I've basically been setting it at the common 4:1 with 30ms attack and 100ms release and shooting for about 3db gr. Honestly, sounds awesome with only 5ms release at 4:1 and 30ms attack...I can't really tell if this compressor is modeled after anything in particular, but I love how clean and transparent it is -So awesome especially for masterbuss, in my opinion. I take such great care to make sure the source sounds are right, so I don't really like the master comp to be too coloured... I was looking for a highpass sidechain and a lower ratio, so I tried to download the "low ratio version", but to no avail! Could be something wrong with my system...

Looking forward to trying version two!

Fircomp 2 is even more amazing :tu:
Eyeball exchanging
Soul calibrating ..frequencies

Yeah, it's easy to forget about due to its low-key nature (small company, no huge marketing buzz) but completely excellent. One of the absolute top plugin compressors.

Really cool. What's amazing is that is does not crumble at any setting. Makes for a fine limiter as well.

It's got that sidechain and lower ratio options. Don't know if I'll be able to resist... lol!!

What do you find yourself using it for??

Can version 1 go between a compressor and limiter??

What do you find yourself using it on? Or, should I say - How do you find yourself using it??

Used it for months - the zero attack, lack of aliasing and zero latency is an interesting combination. But i don't really gel with it anymore. It is clean in the sense that it doesn't add harmonics or aliasing but i wouldn't call it transparent, as i find the compression behavior a bit unmusical. To my ears, It shapes the dynamics in somewhat strange and unnatural ways on many sources.

On (very) fast attack settings, it does its thing very well though and i feel it was designed for this purpose. Couldn't get along with it as a general track/bus compressor in the end.

Really?? Please expound in the "unnatural " part... I might see what you're talking about -I thought it had a GREAT hi-fi quality to it...

Wouldn't worry about it if your ears seem to like what it does. Im just a random person on the internet with an opinion. It just seem to grab certain material in weird ways a bit too often and shape the dynamics in ways that can sound artifical to me (as in 'disconnected from the original dynamics and feeling of the source'.)

I spent a lot of time studying the presets and trying to tweak fircomp2 to be more to my taste, envelope wise, but i would rather just use a compressor that i agree with instead.

Interesting! What is this "envelope " you speak of? - Just the way the comp generally "envelopes" the sound??

fircomp has an aggressive sound, with fairly unique attack and release curves. As a result you can't just use the same MS values as you would on other compressors. Like any other tool it doesn't work on everything, but I find it does work great on some things.

I've recently found out it has very interesting behaviour in it's deharshing mode. Real smooth compression, very usefull on samples. Encourage everybody to give it a shot on various material. Fircomp is great overall, I probably don't need the paid version, but thinking about just supporting the developer.

The "VCA mode" in FirComp2 enables feedback-style compression for a more traditional feel.

Similar here! Like the simplicity and overal "sound". Was thinking about full version only because of resizing. If there will be possibility to have bigger UI in free version, I'll donate it.
