Is there some $20 discount coupon I'm not aware of?

Thank you for sharing (I know someone who still has not updated to SO Pro 6). Do you happen to know when that promotion ends at Best Service?

I had to upgrade Melodyne Studio as well, so I just got them both along with another plugin I kinda wanted with the -$40 code. Everything registered ok, first time using best service for me I guess. :tu:

*I'll bite at around a hundred bucks for DAW upgrades typically, if there is anything I like at all
about the new version. Probably I wasn't paying attention for ver 5, or there was not as good
of a deal.

What are you talking about? Do you have to be best buddies with the people who make the products you use? Unless I misunderstand what you're saying, it seems a very immature attitude.
Regardsing their forums (and facebook groups) - It was (and maybe still is havent been around lately) a very hostile place to be if you try to discuss something that doesnt appease the local "acolytes" :D
It's the same on most company forums, it's in no way unique to Presonus. I doubt I've spent 10 minutes on the Presonus forums, just as I've only visited the Cubase forum when I've had a problem I needed solved. Those forums exist for the weirdos and the zealots.

Exactly! That's why I have all of Ujam's products.

Done! $100 is a much fairer price, plus I got a few extra bucks off from a previous purchase. Thanks for the heads-up.

Crikey! :o Since you own all of them, which UJAM products would you say that you get the most use out of, and which ones will you leave on the shelf collecting dust?

I don't really own all of them but I do have 24 (I just counted them up in my account). BM-Nemesis, BM-Void and BM-Berserk get used for all our drums now and we use VG-Iron (1 & 2) and VG-Carbon for guitars a lot. VD-Heavy, BM-Eden and VB-Rowdy also get a bit of use. For my 80s covers, they all have BM-Vice for drums and I use VB-Rowdy and VG-Iron a lot, too. VG-Sparkle occasionally gets a run, as does VB-Slap. I've got all the Finisher effects plugins but I hardly ever use them and I don't find myself using Striiiings as much as I thought I would - I prefer Heavyocity's Novo Essentials. Most of the other stuff are things I've got for free or that were so cheap I just grabbed them in case I might find them useful.

The only samples I use anymore are East West Hollywood Choirs and Symphonic Choirs. Otherwise, it's all physical modeling.

The SWAM instruments are phenomenal. I'm still learning how to get the most out of them, though. The difference cannot be overstated. When you use SWAM strings, it's like sculpting every nuance of an actual violin performance. When you use samples, you're just playing a keyboard with strings voice.

Check out these videos. The creator programmed everything by hand using computer keyboard and mouse (no MIDI controllers involved!) This level of natural performance and detail just cannot be achieved with samples.

Not even close. NOVO has recorded performances, so you are taking phrases performed by a real string section from an orchestra, usually broken into three layers. If I just wanted to play the notes, I'd use a synth with a strings patch. Novo also has lots of ways to serious f**k with the samples to produce all kinds of amazing things you wouldn't even recognise as strings.

Those videos are all solo instruments, my strings are all ensembles recorded together, as a unit. Putting the effort into crafting samples of the quality of NOVO is a lot more useful for my needs than what I hear in those videos.

I think the smaller the ensemble of players, the more essential something like SWAM is for realism.

However, I will even create a whole string section made up of solo SWAM instruments, placed on a stage together with Virtual Sound Stage 2. I have gotten up to 25 players, and I could go even further. The downside is it is a lot of work, though you can take shortcuts by copying and pasting automation data and then distorting it with Studio One's transform tool in the MIDI editor, to add some variation. In a direct A/B comparison to a sampled string section, the SWAM virtual ensemble still sounds just as realistic, but more agile and visceral, and a lot less rote or canned.

The importance of proper divisi and not having an ensemble that is constantly growing and shrinking in size cannot be overstated.

But if you just want a typical nebulous string pad like you've heard countless times in dramatic soundtracks or epic industrial, then using SWAM is probably overkill. This is more for when you want to sound like you hired an actual ensemble of a distinct number of real people playing real instruments, where you can hear even the direction of their bows.

I did see a post on Audio Modeling's Facebook a while back where they said they'll be coming out with a string ensemble SWAM instrument in the near future.
