I’ve heard great things about this synth. Are there plans to make Electra2 M1 native?

I'm not speaking for Tone2 but I think it's pretty much a definite that it will do.

Markus is making all the other synths M1 compatible, I think Nemesis went into beta for that in the last few days.

So yeah, it's a current synth i'd say it was certain it will. But I am sure Markus will confirm that.

Electra2 as well as all other Tone2 synthesizers will be available as M1 native (AU + VST). The updates will be available for free.

If Electra had some sort of timestretch or granular for the samples, and also mpe, I'd be very interested. I like the layout and sound.

Electra 2.9.5 beta (free update)

The update is available for free for all Electra2 users. It adds native Apple M1 ARM support for Mac.

New features:

- AudioUnit version supports M1 native.
- VSTi version supports M1 native.
- Help->'Show version info' displays the mode in which the plugin is running (ARM/Intel).

Enhancements:

- Much faster loading times on M1 Macs.
- The native M1 support results in 20% lower CPU use compared to Rosetta2 Mode.
- More responsive GUI on M1 Macs.
- More precise graphics for the knobs.
- Several small enhancements.

Changes:

- AudioUnit is now an AUv2 plugin.
- AudioUnit and VSTi are now a Universal Binary for Intel and M1.
- Minimum MacOS version is now 10.11. If you still use an older version you must stick with Electra v2.9.

Notes:
Unlike what Apple suggests to their customers porting complex products to native M1 is not easy at all. In our case it did mean many months of additional work.

How does Electra differ from Icarus?

Also will version 3.0 release soon? If you bought 2.9 would it be free or is it wise to wait?

Icarus is a wavetable synth, Electra 2 virtual analogue and sampling.

I need to try the demo I own Icarus and love it.

Is there a lot of sample based patches in the full version or is that more of a DIY user thing?

4 part arp sounds great.

E2 is a beast. Layering is a lot of fun and really can keep everything under one roof. When the hypersaw options were added, it took on a whole new dimension for leads.

And it's so light on CPU for many layers.

YES! it is beast!, I've been able to compare it to Hardware like Waldorf or the Nymphes 6-Voice Analog Polyphonic Synthesizer module, or with the Moog Subharmonicon Mother 32 DFAM, and with Electra 2 not only do I surpass these beasts in quality, but editing the 4 layers is stupendously easy on the Electra, everything is served there on a plate, in front of your eyes. Do not underestimate this synthesizer, because you would be leaving behind one of the best 5 in the entire history of VST...

Are you sure? I find Icarus to have better quality and character than Electra.

I was wondering while programming some sounds, how can this synthesizer sound so good compared to analog synthesizers that cost 20 times more? It is notorious and praiseworthy the dedication that Markus and his team were able to put a decade ago to the programming of this beastly sounding electronic production and working tool... incredible synth! If version 3 would include 'Granular' then this VST would be leterally unstoppable!

:phones: It depends, for me (I also have Icarus 2) Electra is unbeatable in synthesis and quality of analog oscillators, they sound round and fat. Icarus has the forte of more complex wavetable editing and maybe sounds a bit more polished there, but Electra wins on analog sounds to my ears (we all perceive something different sonically), two sounding beasts anyway! :tu:

I never thought of whether Electra sounded analog or not but I love the sound of it and owning both I also prefer it over Icarus, soundwise, gui and functionality. Although I have had some hair straight back moments w/ Icarus tbf.

Electra is in my top 3 tone2's w/ Gladiator and Nemesis. Version 3 should be wild, looking forward to that.
