My duo for track compression is: Fircomp vs TDR Molot GE and I couldn't be more happy with those 2. Sometimes using bx_opto for something smoother, but it's marginal. As unappealing as Fircomp looks, its amazing piece of code.

fircomp has an aggressive sound, with fairly unique attack and release curves. As a result you can't just use the same MS values as you would on other compressors. Like any other tool it doesn't work on everything, but I find it does work great on some things.

What exactly is the main difference, do you know?? I mean -This kind of brings another element to the table where you've gotta really use your ears, I guess?? What would be the numerical difference, or -Would they apply even if you could calculate it??

It is my go to for acoustic guitars, which are very touchy regarding compression, but I find that FirComp (i only use v2) can work very transparently on those.

It is also an excellent de-esser.

Yes , the attack setting in Fircomp2 ( even in vca mode ) should be verry verry low to compress the transients , almost everything above 0.3 ms will let them thru .

In VCA mode, the envelope knob turns into a feedback knob, you might want to fiddle with that.

I am aware of that
THere is def a difference , compared to other compressors I realy hae to adjust fircomp attack a lot faster to get the same results .
NOtice the long sustain during the attack phase in fircomp ( upper waveform)

SO do I , I lleave the transients uncompressed more or less treating the compresso as a transient tool

NO , but dc8c is a lot more flexible and is imho one of the best compressors out there .
It's really a chamealon , clean - dirty if you want to
