I would like groove tools added to Bitwig for sure... that said, it isn't always so easy to extract and use grooves and have them come out well. Even when I had Live (and now in Logic), sometimes I still just do it by live playing until I get it right.
It's not hard either. Like all things it takes moderation and just a little bit of skill to get good groove extractions.
It's not about hard or getting a good extraction, but that when playing live, I can groove the groove so to speak...

For techno music I prefer Bitwig over Live :
in Bitwig it is easy to modulate everything ans get a original sound.
You can add several differents audio items in the same audio clip, handy for having different sounds in the same track. In live, I must make a track for each sound.

I have an extremely hard time going back to Live after using Bitwig for over a year. All of the little qol benefits and features of Bitwig make it feel like going back in time to use Live.

I feel the same. I miss M4L plugins and some of the content from packs, but it's seems so much better. I like how you talk about quality of life benefits. I'm also surprised that I like Push 2 better in Bitwig than I do in Ableton.

Only basic swing... no sort of groove extract and apply to track/clip
This is a major hole in Bitwig’s feature set, IMO. I’m working on a track which has parts that are pretty straight and parts with lots of swing, even every other bar, and it was pretty tedious to do in Bitwig. I did the whole thing live. It would have been really nice to have something like Live’s groove pool to just drag over to a MIDI clip.

Yeah, I’ve long since given up on getting that, and I’ve become pretty good at just playing the groove I want to see in the world. Sometimes I have to temporarily slow things down, because I’m generally low skilled, but I get there.

I just play the same figure over and over and then cut out the best take. The rest, I burn with fire and bury in the backyard. I've done that since the Dr T. days. :D

It's actually very rare that I use quantize or swing,
I started on Logic 5 with a PowerBook G4 550Mhz. I now have a MacBook Air M1 and it's ~165x faster! So, why is my music not proportionally better? :(

If you would do that with comping you don‘t even need to cut it. You just select the best take… Midi comping is missing though…

Yeh, I have been back to using Live quite a bit for the midi comping, I find it very useful for capturing organic MPE performances…I prefer to try and capture a live performance rather than spend time editing midi.

I do the same... I play it until I am happy with it rather than go into the editor. A quick tweak or two in the editor is fine, but beyond that, record again!

In Bitwig I record midi into the Clip Launcher and it keeps going making a new clip with each 'take'. Works well enough for me until they add midi comping.

I could not give up Bitwig's modulation system... and especially now with CLAP and PolyMod on the u-he synths. That has become the indispensable feature for me!

Post

Ableton might not have all those features, but it's designed to be super functional and has a much more fluit GUI.
Bitwig is nice in concept, but I feel workign with it is a hassle.

Me neither, just use both depending what I am doing...a lot of stuff I do don't use any modulation, more about playing expressive instruments live. Other times I use (Bitwig) like a modular and a lot of things play themselves and self generate...nothing beats Bitwig for that.

Both for me is Bitwig and Logic... Logic does a lot of stuff that neither Bitwig or Live can do.

No Logic for PC users!

You know what to do. ;)

Regarding comping, that feature didn't exist when I started and I still don't miss having it. Well, I'm sure my DAWs have it...
