ya never know:)

also i heard dvdidle will rip anything
I was going to recommend this too. It rips everything I put into it - so far nothing has escaped it. And it's freeware now!

A far easier way is to just put the CD in a Mac OSX and open it with iTunes, for some reason that works every time, too.

ahhh cd duplication or imaging....

Well let’s put it this way, without imaging almost everything I have, about 90% of everything would be unplayable/usable. You are in most cases allowed to backup stuff you buy for "backup" reasons. I do this all the time as my CD's tend to be in nasty shape when I get to them months later.
CD to your PC via an analog or digital audio connection
If they even work, so I always rip and store images on DVD's and put them away in my closet. I don’t know why people might make a big deal of it? I mean if CD's were some stone engraving and never got damaged (DVD's damage 100X more easily I might add) then I wouldn’t need to, and it sucks to have that 300+ dollar program ruined from some nice and deep scratch!

Here are the downsides to protected stuff...

Even though it is "Protected" almost anything and everything (unless it is a POS useless tool) gets cracked! So I mean what is it actually protecting?

Most protection schemes are simply annoying! I can tell of many cracked stuff, which makes life easier!!!! I know many people who even if they own a program they would prefer/use warez where they install it once and it works forever without annoyances.

NOCD cracks!
I mean when you have allot of software and thousands of CD's who wants to bumble and sift through them all every time you might rarely use something!

Lastly all of these results in the person making the image, and using noCD cracks etc... A better ripper/cracker, than they would if the software company hadn’t done it at all! Granted not everyone can code, but it seems enough can! Especially all the kids today!!!

And if I chose to image my CD/DVD and it’s protected, I will eventually get it imaged, and I have just learned how to bypass the protection! Resulting in some kid out there who knows can do this, and may or may not share this info with friends for non-legal purposes!

My theory is no matter how hard you try those who choose to bootleg, will.... No matter what!

So should just leave it up to the consumer to get a decent item, that works well, or they will learn how to crack and ripp, and also will be more inclined to use a cracked piece which actually works without hassle!

Something to think about....

Most of this is theoretical, as I have thought about this often, and in no way to I Condone warez, or bootlegging! If you respect the software developers/ musicians! BUY IT!!! And support them!!!!

As a software/game developer, and musician I know personally how it feels to be ripped off! It’s a double edged sword!

Also soon according to some new laws that are being passed such as INDUCE and other I think was mentioned, just having a DVD recorder, CD writer, even a Hard Disk, which can potentialy "store" illegal stuff, is not permitted! I think these bills have already passed! Its similar to how hollywood tried to fight sony over... the VCR! If you dont remeber this in the 70's/80's. Quite a sad affair that the current bills no one seems to know about! Better hide your PC, according to INDUCE it is a lean , mean copyright infringment machine! Which "the children" will surley be "induced" into unknowingly comminting copyright infringment!

Thats kinda how the bill even puts it LOL

Thanks hollywood, and RIAA! Just because you want to run your businesses on a 1970's buisness model, you want everyone to conform to your dated standards!

If it was some kind of smaller entity, without the monny and lobbiers, like any company with a severly dated buisness model, you deserve to die!

I mean if anyone could of embraced the internet (BTW even FTP, and HTTP can be considerd illegal), with all the money they have they coulda been doing stuff over the internet in 95 when it first started entering the consumers home!

SAD

End of RANT.... sorry LOL

Here at Harlan's World they ship you out into space and drop you off without a space suit in the vicinity of our smallest moon, which happens to have an atmosphere and a swamp-like surface filled with critters (so hard luck if you survive the fall).

But I haven't been caught yet, so I still order my CD's via the stellar net and rip them with Audiograppler before I put them on my MP3 player.

i just purchased a protected audio cd. i wana rip it too my computer because all my music collection is on my music hard drive, and i listen most of the time on my computer. i tried many programs but NONE seem to work (ex: alcohol, blind read/write, cdex, clonecd, extract audio copy). the thing is that when i insert this cd in my computer, it doesnt even let me play it. i researched a little bit on google and found out that some protected cds automatically install a driver when you insert it which disables u to rip them. i wonder if i try to rip it on another O.S like linux perhaps, maybe it will work. if anyone had already tried that, or knows any method or trick, i'll be very thankful.
Try the SHIFT key. :D

I've yet to meet a single person who's never copied an album for a mate.

Oh, only "abnormal" people like to have mp3s of the CDs they own on their computers...

Ever hear of "fair use"?

I dont know why everyones havin a bitch slap fight about this issue. We all know how much a cd costs, it's all about money, how much does the artist actually get? Why should you buy 5 copies of something when you can make 1 backup? If the people who deserved the riches got the riches instead of the fat bosses, the marketers who convince you to buy an inferior product, mtv playin the same drivel over n over again then life would be perfect and we would all be dead!

I'ts obvious most of the people here aren't making a living out of selling their music.

If/when I am making my living from cd sales and one of you guys burn a copy of my stuff for your mates or whatever(illegal!!!Goddmmit) I will come around to your place and kick you in the nuts !!!

I have some cds from the library and they are due back
my missus wants me to copy them and I can't do it!!!
I won't do it , even if the money from cd sales doesn't
all go to the right places I don't think it's up to us to create even more wrong doing by illegally making copies for our friends .. erm I'ts like if everyone got a copy of the band aid song , that would really help the starving children right?????

Post

Well here in canada you are allowed to make a copy of your purchased songs. You are even allowed to download songs from P2P or others just so long as you aren't also sharing them. Strange but true - at least according to a recent judgement about this type of thing.

So I will add to what fake said about EMI cds by saying you can also get around it loading the data program by holding down shift before inserting the cd. This will disable the autorun. I am unfamiliar with other vendors cd protection though.

EDIT already mentioned by TonyVanDam. Where are those damn glasses. Can't read too well ;)
