Oh, my golly-gosh. Wow -I just stumbled up on this thing the other day. Well, I didn't stumble upon it -I had it laying around from when I nabbed up all their plugins on that free giveaway a while back... I was sifting through masterbus compressors the(limiter no. 6, Fircomp, Modern Apohis, Glow Comp (?), some others...) and I just couldn't find what I was looking for -Couldn't find the "ticket. Nothing fit the bill... I had always avoided the Shadow Hills because it looked complicated. But, man -NOTHING sounds like this thing. Totally shifted my music into the next realm. Completely unexpected. And, it's actually not that complicated (now, their Focusrite console -THAT's complicated...). It's simply a stereo compressor with an opto and a discrete (vca?) on both sides. The expensive version also has some cool options for sidechaining and stuff, as well...
Anyone using it around here?? Wish I had some of their hardware! OMG -I can't freakin' imagine how that must sound...
Big fan of PA's Ampeg thing too. Great amp sim...

So...long story short:
The 1 version was too heavy handed on my material so I bought the class A version, which is way closer to what I want but suddenly there was a loss of high end of the opto comp (nothing that a EQ cannot resolve).
I still try on some projects but usually it end up somewhere else on the mix, like vocal bus or drum bus parallel .

I'm guessing you're just pinning the bass down 1176- style in the "discreet" section? - Or, are you going for more of an LA2A kinda thing?

I got it for free, i think they gave it away when the PA/NI/Izotope was trying to became a supersayan.
Although i never use it, the workflow does not fit my taste, i prefer other compressors
