How Important is a Matched Stereo Pair of SDC's??

So, I'm spot micing my cymbals, but I need a descent stereo pair in addition to serve as ambient mics because I'm lacking a little bit of that cymbal "fizz" or "swoosh". I've got this pair of Digital Reference SDCs, but they are not that fantastic -And I SPECIALIZE is making crappy microphones work (-the Digital Reference tom mics are not bat at all, however)...

I can get a good deal on two AKG p170's, but I recall reading some time back about how it's important for stereo pairs to be matched -That is, if you're hard panning them in the mix left and right. When listening back to my crappy Digital Reference SDC's, I think I can see why -There's some type of "phasiness" between them. It feels as though they are just not syncing up with each other -or they're going in and out of each other, or something -And, it's not your typical "out of phase" sound, either...
